Problems Driving a Rig

It goes away over time. The intimidation factor will be gone inside of a few months at most.

 

When I first starting driving, I remember the trailer feeling "unnatural". I could feel the trailer wagging. Tried to correct it and it got worse. As time goes on tho, I got to be smoother in my steering imput and the trailer wagged less. The less imput you give to the steering wheel, the smoother it runs.

THEN they came out with those airride trailers. Boy did that take a bit for me to get used to. It always felt like they were going to tip over. The longer wheelbase trucks feel more stable IMO.

That being said, I ran 110000 miles on a midroof Columbia and 90000 on a Pete 386 last yr. Both 244 inch wheelbase. The Freightliner Columbia gave a smoother ride, but leaned alot more in curves. The Pete was stiffer, had better steering feel, and was worlds better handlingwise. Because it didnt lean, I found myself taking curves at higher speeds.
