Can someone tell me what it costs to replace a crankshaft Dampner on a Volvo D13. Or how to test if yours is bad . 2010Volvo 780. Shudders and vibration , the faster you go the more intense. I have rebuilt drieveshaft. Replaced carrier bearing, new steer tires and rims. Tested drive axles, raised off ground. Pulled axles out, spun drive axle tires , at high speeds. Front drive axle showed wobble left right. Was told tires were the problem, replaced tires . No change. 3 axle Alignment has been done. Any thoughts or suggestions.

First it sounds like you want to throw more parts at this problem.
Have you rev'd the engine while parked? If the vibration was the motor it wouldn't be speed dependent. Just RPM dependent. Also at what speed is the problem more noticeable. Is this a 10speed or Ishift?

This is a 10speed. I have rev'd the engine while parked. I believe there is vibration. Truck has 900,000 miles so Dampner should be replaced. This vibration or shudder , seems to always be there, but it is more intense at higher speeds. Example, at 63 its faint, 64 -65 worse , 66-67 less , 68-69 might be worse, 70-71 72 less , 73-74 worse. I'm thinking maybe a brake drum. Or rims. Besides Dampner. It seems like it could be 2 problems. I can take out of gear rolling downhill at 75 . Part of it goes away, but as it goes thru different speeds it will vibrate or shudder but much less intense.

Check leveling valve, ride height, driveline angles, u bolts.

It's a long shot, but cheap. I had similar symptoms. I was into this #### vibration for over 10k. Turned out it was the u bolts I neglected. Which wore the pins off the saddles, which wore out some u joints, power divider, steady bearing etc. Expensive lesson, and I'm not too proud to admit it either. Nor should the driveline shop I was at a few different times, who are great at fixing "symptoms." But we know better now!

Hi i am chasing vibration too, When u bolt are loose can you tell by looking at it? Mine looks normal no rust around them, should i try to tighten them with a wrench to see if they turn? thanks

Hit each on the top with a hammer. They should all "ting" and youll be able to tell if anything's loose by the sound it makes compared to the others

Those bolts are tight as hell and hand tools will not cut it. They are often seized and need to be heated up with a torch and hit with a big impact gun. If you heat them up to tighten, they will need to be replaced soon after.

It's not so much that they back off over time, but they stretch. So they will be tight as can be but not hold their "bite" on the axle for long

I've kind of had similar issue except mine is just about anytime the rpm is at 1000, under a load empty trailer or loaded, I have this shuddering that will smooth out at 70+. But it's rough getting there. Recently replaced all the ubolts on my drive axles, it helped as now doesn't feel like my axles are catching air, felt like total wheel hop. My truck has vibration while parked but goes away if I idle the truck up or press throttle. Ever figure yours out?
