I was just fiddling around with truckersedge and found this refer load from St. Elmo, AL, to Delaware, OH.
45,037 lbs
869 miles
Offer is $800
That's just $0.92 CPM
Seems to me that any O/O would be hemorrhaging money by taking this load. You think maybe the broker is smoking too much whacky-weed? I was under the impression that the break-even point for most O/Os would be something like $1.50/mile.
Why would an O/O take this load?

Some O/O in hurry to drive to where loads are $ 3 per mile. Too stupid to calculate round trip.
-
You have a screen shot of that? I searched and there’s zero loads showing within 100 miles going to Ohio.

There are many reasons people take cheap freight.
To go home and hide from viruses, to get to a better paying lane, get to their contracted shipper in the fear of losing a contract.
It's very common in the auto parts world. Let's say you have a contract for moving parts between Detroit and Dallas. You get paid roundtrip money even if the return load is not ready. So if there is nothing coming back, people just take anything available, because it's just extra money for them.Dino soar, bzinger, Midwest Trucker and 5 others Thank this. -

I would deadhead. I still have some pride. No way I would appease a lousy customer like that.
