Thanks for the info, makes a little more sense now for an o/o. But i thought JB HUNT, SCHNEIDER,CRST,KLLM,PRIME,ETC were terrible companies to work for? Not as bad a england or stevens but not good either. Never really thought about the getting the load out part either. I do know that if you figure the hourly wage truckers do not make much maybe $15/hr. I've worked a few times during harvest hauling grain/wheat, worked about 100hrs a week, made take home $1400 only $14/hr, however at $25/hr with 40hr week i would take home about $790. I prefer the $1400 any day. I like driving it doesn't seem like work to me because i'm not diggin a ditch, or out in 3 feet of snow framing a house 40hrs a week. I'd much prefer to drive see the country. We'd probably never really understand each other because most of the truckers who know and have the most experience have only driven. You haven't had to work like i have and i haven't had to work like you have. So were both looking at it from different experiences! I think you've got some real good things to think about, thank you

No i fully understand that truckers don't make much on an hourly basis. But if you figure just the weekly pay vs weekly pay. Its a lifestyle, what you want out of life. Have you ever worked construction 40hrs a week? Yeah your home every weekend with the same thing every week. Same for trucking i guess but at least your traveling around not going to the same job site with 3ft of snow framing a house day after day for about $790/wk takehome. I'd prefer to drive 80hrs / wk make $900-1200 takehome get to see some country then come home and actually miss my wifes face if you know what i mean :) Not have to hear her nag, day after day after day, lol.

You are forgetting fuel costs money... But, there are drivers that will sit in a truck stop for days on end waiting for that 1500 mi load, all the while turning short loads down that would have netted them a profit.

Those are TERRIBLE COMPANIES TO WORK FOR .....FOR SURE..... LOOK AT IT THIS WAY YOU WORK FOR YOUR 11-14 HOURS A DAY AND SOMEOTHER CASES 14-18 HOURS A DAY YOU ONLY MADE 150-200 FOR THE DAY. FIGURE IT UP AND THEN TAKE AWAY 10-30 A DAY FOR FOOD , SNACKS...ETC... SHOWER UNLESS U GET ONE FOR FREE 9 DOLLARS... YOUR TAKE HOME FOR THE DAY KEEPS SHRINKING PLUS YOU ARE NOT IN YOUR BED IN YOUR HOUSE AND ONLY GET TO TALK TO YOUR FAMILY OVER THE PHONE OR ON THE INTERNET.... DEPENDING HOW CLOSE U R TO THEM IT GETS OLD QUICK.... I HAD JOBS BEING HOME EVERY DAY BRINGING HOME B 4 TAXES 320 A DAY WORKING 12 HOUR SHIFTS BUT LEFT THAT BEHIND TO BRING MY FAMILY TO A BETTER LIFESTYLE . NOW I AM A TRUCKER SO I TRADED ONE THING FOR ANOTHER AND HAVE BEEN TRUCKING FOR 14+ YEARS...... ITS NOT THE BEST SITUATION TO BE IN BUT IT DOES GET INTO YOUR BLOOD.

If i make 240 a day it still is not that great i am away from home 24 hours right ... I do not care if i am working or sleeping i take my daily pay and divide by 24 in this case i only make 10 dollars an hour ..... Bfd..... Ok now take out your meals , shower, snacks, laundry, and other expenses that arise out on the road .. Which if you cannot get to a wally world or other super store you will pay big prices for anything at the truckstop... Just something to think about.
