Yeah, thats another thing I feared out on the two lanes. To be honest, I avoid two lane hwys if I can.

 

You don't have to be gone from home for weeks to get your first trucking job. Every Over-The-Road company needs drivers so OTR, gone from home 1 week or more before getting home, is the easiest job to get. But you don't have to start there. Food Service and Beverage are in almost all cities and it's a lot of physical labor. But they are almost always hiring.

 

Keep looking for a local outfit, I got started that way, first 7 yrs all straight Trucks. A lot of companies can seg way you right into a semi, willing to since Drivers are hard to find. And with a little OT, almost guaranteed to earn more than paying dues to a mega. Not to mention the possibility of a negative mark on a dac record or some other stupid situation they can put you in. I’m sure there’s a small food distributed or plumbing / roofing supply co. Somewhere.

 

Lots of choices to work your way into tractor-trailers.
Many companies have some type of refresher course for drivers with a cdl-a and little experience. Submit some apps. off the websites then follow with a phone call.
