Just throwing this out there. I pay myself a weekly paycheck. Unemployment taxes all that comes out. Can I lay myself off and file for unemployment? My state pays 450 max which is what I'd get. Then this stimulus package pays me an extra $600 so $1045 a week. No wear and tear on my truck. I run flatbed and rates and demand are tanking big time. Thinking this will keep my afoalt until this passes over

    The key word.

That DURN VIRUS!!! I cannot get to work... everyone and Eeyore is sick today. What am I to do?

You better file pronto. Arkansas just finished 30,000 filings and pending weekend online filings and 24/7 night filings now. I think 3 million plus 7 more are trying to file if they havent already.

So many people smarten up about dear uncle sam and his blessed 600 dollars a week plus whatever the state gives you, thats like 4000 a month.

I actually sat and thought about filing as well. It would be a very thin excuse bordering on fraud and crime if I tried it.

I know Pennsylvania takes a long time before it gives UI to self employed people (if it ever does). But maybe with COVID-19 things might have changed, and states loosened up a bit, since they want us to stay home.

If you are paying unemployment I don't see why it would not be. Of course you will need to check with your states unemployment office (good luck with that).
Personally I would file and after the panic is over find out if it was fine and be willing to pay it back if not. Maybe on a payment plan....

    Go for it.

You have limited work out there, right?

You are going to lay off your employees, right?

The additional ui money is to ensure you can handle your payroll so you don't go under.

Have a friend who is a temp care giver as a 1099 vocation, he has two clients who are elderly but he can't do that so he is applying for ui to keep his head above water. No different than a truck driver.

Why would your State require you, as an S-corp, to pay the u.e.i. portion on your payroll and not allow you to collect on it?

Oregon won't allow officers of the S-corp to pay into it on the payroll side. Thus, we can't collect.

Would a grand a week be enough to pay for all your business fixed related costs and personal obligations though?

    RubyEagle Thanks this.
