I don't think so either. and no, I never said you had to have a CCW permit to carry in a vehicle. but if it's concealed in one's vehicle, a CCW is required. some states (SC for example,) if the gun is carried in a vehicle, it MUST be concealed, whether you have a CCW permit or not. in other states, you don't actually have to tell the officer you have a weapon. other states, you must have the weapon unloaded and not within reach. do you know which combination of requirements each state has?
for the people suggesting that you bring a knife, pepper spray, stun gun, pointy stick, scary light or noise device to a gun fight - you're going to lose! a loud noise isn't going to thwart a determined attacker - they'll just increase the speed and viciousness of their attack, now that you've brought the attention of their attack to others. but good luck with your strategy.
for the "child" who thinks that if you just simply don't fear the bad guy, you won't be attacked....I'm not sure I follow your logic. the bad guy doesn't give a fig whether you fear him or not. he's just as happy robbing/raping/stomping/stabbing/killing someone who acts tough as he is someone who is scared sheetless. although I'm sure he'd much prefer to attempt this with someone who is NOT armed.

Off the top of my head no I do not know each states rules, however there are a lot of sites designed to tell you exactly what you must do to legally carry your firearm in each state.
You absolutely do NOT have to have a concealed carry license to carry a handgun in a vehicle. Concealed on your body in the vehicle, need a license. Concealed in a vehicle (ie: out of sight whether that means loaded under seat or in glove box, unloaded in a duffel bag or unloaded and dissassembled and locked up seperately from also locked up ammo) does not require a concealed carry license in ANY of the states that allow you to own a handgun. In many states you MUST have the gun "concealed" when transporting it in a vehicle, but many of these same states do not issue a concealed carry license. -
Concealed carry license apparently is confusing a lot of people. Concealed is not the key word requiring a license. CARRY is the key word which requires you to have a license. As long as you obey each states regulations for transporting a firearm in a vehicle you are fine. Going into a state that does not allow you to concealed carry? Easy, don't carry it. Leave it in the car/truck.

its perfectly legal to transport a gun in truck and also legal to carry it loaded on your person if your concealed carry permit state has a reciprocity agreement with the state you are traveling in. Just print out a list of the states that have the agreement and carry it with you, otherwise you would have to keep the unloaded gun and ammo separate from each other and locked up while traveling through a non reciprocal states.
I would print this PMHSA letter:

and this reciprocity guide:

I repeat, I did NOT say one had to have concealed license to have a firearm in one's vehicle. but maybe you don't know the meaning of the word "concealed." concealed doesn't mean it's on your person, it means it's not visible. doesn't matter if it's on your body or not, or how loaded or unloaded it is. doesn't matter if it's under the seat, in the center console, glove box, trunk or wherever. if the gun is NOT in plain sight in your vehicle, it IS concealed. in NC, if you're pulled over, you have to declare any weapons in the vehicle. if it's concealed any where in the vehicle, you better have a CCW license. if you don't, you'll be in deep doo doo. but feel free to spread generalized misinformation to which you believe applies to ALL 50 states if you like. -
Sorry dude...but there is WAAAAY too much bad info in that post.
Concealed carry can be on your person or hid in your car...if its loaded and out of sight, its concealed carry and requires a permit to do so (in nearly all states) .Last edited: Sep 10, 2009

I believe there is a federal law that allows safe transportation of firearms through every state so long as it is unloaded and the ammo is kept seperate, no CCW required for this means of transporting.

Correct....

I will continue to carry a firearm, legal or otherwise... State laws vary considerably and if one is constantly travelling throughout the US, it would be nearly impossible to comply with each individual state's laws.
I would rather be alive to deal with the legal aftermath of a situation than be permanently in the dirt. I guess this is my survivalist mentality...
Addidtionally, if one follows the rules of carrying a concealed firearm, no one should ever know that they are actually carrying a firearm.
I have been legally carrying concealed before and have spoken with police officers, standing up, outside... They never knew I was carrying. The irony is that we were carrying the exact same gun---a Glock 23 .40 S&W... and I initiated a conversation about this specific gun...
A North American Arms mini-revolver in .22LR or .22WRM is so small you can conceal it naked...
I'm joking, but they are no more difficult to conceal or carry than a Buck 110 folding knife... easier actually...
I'm certainly not encouraging anyone to intentionally break the law, but rather stating my opinions on this subject...
