Hi Guys, my son has a Bearcat 880 and hadnt used it in a while. Today we tested to make sure it worked via the CB in my truck. When I transmit, he can hear me clearly. When he transmits, I can see where he is transmitting because my bars max out when he presses his mic button, I just can't hear any vocalization. I can see where he is keying his mic but i cant hear his voice. The mic is one of those noise cancelling mics that come with the 880. Its like its cancelling not just background noise but his voice as well. Any settings that we are missing? Any ideas would be appreciated.

He probably has a short in the mic.

Ask him to wiggle the mic cord around while talking. Shorts or broken wires usually happens where the mic connector connects to the radio.

Make sure his radios mike gain is turned up, if it isn't it can cause the problem you are describing.

He should be able to see the meter kick up when he talks, if not, the radio isn't getting audio input from the mic, probably a short in the plug or cord causing that.

Thats what I thought. I checked all wires in his mic cord for continuity and all good. You can see the meter on his radio spike when he talks. Also, when he talks, the meter on my radio spikes as well, just no voice coming through. Im thinking the mic in his mic is bad.

Make sure the mic gain in the radio is set on 3, and make sure you talk with your lips right up to the center of the microphone (the bottom of the mesh section).

I've got the same radio with a similar problem when I key the mic it spikes, the gain is set to 3 but should I see the bars fluctuate when I talk or should it stay steady. I've also had a problem of the internal diagnostic sometimes passing the RF out and sometimes failing
