*** Cut and Paste*** From Central's DAC threadHTML:

Sleeping bag Fitted twin sheet Pillow Toiletries(including wet-wipes) 1 weeks worth of cloths; 3-5 pair of pants, 2-3 pair of shorts, and 7-10 shirts, enough for 7 days. Atleast a light jacket, maybe heavy sweatshirt or flannel. If attending school there too, I would have a winter coat of some sort, walmart sells carhhartt ripoffs for $30, pretty warm. Cheap leather work gloves for hooking trailers. Laptop if you have one, could buy a good Dell Inspiron 4150 on ebay, or a dell lattitude c840 for around $150, I have both, and they are older but last in the truck.(small 200w inverter too) Composition notebook, for recording mileages and load information, this helps you keep track of your pay. Allot of patience, and a little luck. I would say 70% dont make it through a year at central.
Does Central have that high of a wash out percentage? I'm really a hard worker, and willing to put the time and energy to go the extra mile and succeed. That seems pretty high, but then again who woulda thunk the recession was going to be this severe. -
Being proud to be FROM Florida, I thought all the Canadians went there because it was their most southern province.
Now I live in Northern Baja California aka Southern California.
If I keep up this trend I'll move to Texas and they'll finally secede.mama mia Thanks this. -
Just my $.02 (U.S. Currency so it's not really worth what it used to be).
Obviously I can't say what percentage wash out or what turn-over rates are. However, having lived a lifestyle of being somewhat nomadic, always traveling, away from home and loved ones, long hours and relatively low pay. I can say that a majority of the people that volunteered to do that work could not handle the difficulties that go along with it. The realities of the dream were to difficult to overcome.
In some ways being a professional driver (aka trucker) is really no different. People will have a dream that this is something they want. When reality sets in, long hours, pay below expectations, always traveling, away from home and loved ones, they can not handle it and give up. In the grand scheme of things this is actually a good thing.
Remember that if this were a job for everybody, then everybody would be doing it.
The great folks that can handle the job and the difficulties which go along with it are the ones we want doing the job. Because they will do it safely and with a professional attitude. -
...Huh? A THOUSAND a week...??? No no no no noooo.... I get paid every 2 weeks, and during that time span, only make about $490. Getting paid that much every week at least at Central sure beats this place, lol. And nah, you're not a moron, just missed the point I think, hah.

Seriously... Doesn't it feel a little old/repetitive now..? I mean, I understand wanting to get some information, but wanting to know so badly as to whether you can drive just so you can screw around at a certain place..?

I came back after one day of being absent from the thread, and apparently missed about 10 pages of posts, haha.

Ahhhh, what a lovely place this is. Los Lonas, NM. Looks like only the rich people live here from looking at some of these homes. Wonder how wally world was allowed to put in a DC here.
Was going to spend some time at the TA in Albuquerque but ###### if I could find it. Think I may have not gone far enough north. Sure hope I find it when I leave here since I'm about bingo fuel and am pretty sure thats where they'll have me fill up.
I sooooooooooo miss my truck, with the sirius radio AND a working tripac A/C. Ain't much to listen to in west TX and NM iffen your not around a major town. Oh wait!!! Aren't any in those areas, are there?
Got a preplan to go to another one of those lovely meat places. Oh joy, oh joy. Friona, TX and the only thing there is an Alsups.
Am in a small dirt lot with a movie theater right down the road. Guess I'll go see GI Joe to kill some time. -
PF,
You are about 25 miles south from the nearest one. Head north on I-25.
