Backing C.R. england

Wiith CR England you get your license before you can drive off the lot.
First phaze when I was there meant you were out with a trainer
Second phaze you were out with another driver (whom also just finished with a trainer) for x amount of weeks. To show you can turn the miles.
Third phaze is when you finally no longer need training.

Tho CR England only has refresher course for drivers whom are comfortable driving already. If your not comfortable with backing, I would say this is why your not able to get the refresher.

 

Backing is something you learn from experience over time, no one can learn it in school. Ask your trainer for a chance to back when you guys have down time at the truck stop waiting on that shipper that will not take you in until the next day.

Do not let anyone get out and start making hand motions on which way to turn the wheel, you will never learn it that way. Got to just figure it out on your own.

If you have no idea how the trailer will react to the way you turn the steering wheel then go download a truck driving simulator, that is what I did when I was training at CR England. The first few days of phase one I did I was horrible at backing up. Then one day while taking a ten hour break at the truckstop i logged onto the free wifi and downloaded euro trucker 2000 and practiced all night. Next day the trainer was in disbelief at how much I had improved.

 

Your going to have fun with the cable spools.
The cable spool test consists of three cable spools (supposedly telephone poles). They are set in a stagger. There is a box painted on the ground. You are to enter with the truck at one end of the rectangle with one spool to your right. Then you will drive into the rectangle and avoid the second spool that will be on your left. At the end of the box will be the third spool on the right when you exit the box. The edges of the box are supposedly solid walls. You are (or were as the test was there in 2007 when I was there) expected to drive through the box in forward. Then to do it in reverse. Yeah, they have a sense of humor.

You can practice as much as you have time for when you get your own truck. Most newbies just avoid backing at all cost until their inability to back causes them to break something and get fired.

 

Just remember to stop when it sounds expensive.

 

When I started there 15 years ago, you had to pass the obstacle course and backing range before you even got on the truck with a trainer.
