1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Two days ago (Wednesday) I attended an "orientation" (actually just a recruitment seminar) held by Stevens in Pueblo, CO. The guy acted like they were REALLY hiring since they are mostly a food hauler, and "everyone has to eat" even in these tough times.

He passed out apps to all of us, and I submitted mine. He asked all the experienced guys (three of us) to call him today. I just did and he said that Stevens currently "has no available trucks". You mean he didn't know that two days ago? Said my app "looked great" but he just could not hire me right now. Maybe 6-8 weeks.

So what's going on. Is this just the way Stevens works?. Lots of what he said sounded good. Like 70 MPH trucks, APU's on all trucks, 100% no touch and NEVER chain up.

But something tells me this may have been a sham. He was pushing the "lease thing" VERY big time, talking how RICH we could all get.... You know the usual line of BS.

    All comments/opinions welcomed.

I've heard nothing but bad about Stevens. If it was that recruiter that looks like a kenny rogers wannabe, he's as crooked as they get. Some recruiters will stretch the truth, but that guy is just a liar.

No, not like Kenny Rogers.... This guy was mid-50's and bragged about his "fleet" of Harleys, how well off he was, etc.... Seemed like just a braggart. First name was Don and he's out of Denver.

    Greetings My Friend:

Astute observation. I am looking at EITHER place. I currently live near Pueblo (30 miles) and thought I'd check out their "orientation". I'd love to drive out of Phoenix, but so far no luck selling the house here (are you surprised??) so I'm still here in Colorado.

It's a VERY two edged sword for me. I LOVE it here, but Phoenix area has much milder winters. I wouldn't mind going on down to Phoenix and living out of my truck for several months at a time. Still most all companies want a local address (We've discussed this before; but you remember that).

So, for the time being here I sit at 7000 feet (on the side of Mount Rudolph) getting fatter and sassier by the DAY.

Keep in touch, AM. You and I are about the same age and us "old coots" gotta stick together!!!

Ever look at Western Transport? They are in Colorado and have some of the nicest trucks in the country. I've run with a few of them back in the day. Nice guys for the most part.

Unrelated but, what have you done to your Busa. I have a 1340 Bandit (yes, I had to mod the engine) and I smoke the city boys on the stretched busa's all the time. Of course I only get 22 mpg so it came at a price but the looks on their faces when we stop is worth it.

Oh, yeah..... It didn't take me long to figure out that the guy is a real "used car salesman". I figure they're sucking poor "down and out" guys that can barely find milk money for the baby, into their school and then when they finally get out of training.....Viola!!! There ARE no jobs right now.

I'm sure the LAST thing they want is an experienced driver.

Ah, Western Transport...... The old Monfort of Colorado I believe (someone said that in another thread). I certainly will give them a call. Thanks for the info.
