My friend recently talked with a driver from Davis Transport. He was with them for 11 years and was getting paid the same as when he started. Their pay is way too low for a flatbed. I don't know much about watkins-shepard but Jones might a better choice out of the three. I would check them both out anyway. Good Luck. BTW,STAY AWAY from Jim Palmer out of Missoula.

I've heard Tyson is a good company to work for. They are constantly recruiting from the CDL school I attended. But remember they are on the reefer side of the business and you are at the receivers mercy.
I have contacted the local recruiter here in ATL by email a few times - with no response from him. Email shows the emails were received and read. Hope it doesn't reflect the entire company.

Does Wal-mart have a DC near Missoula? You may be able to hook up with them. If I were you, I'd go get a Missoula phone book and check out the trucking companies listed. Make sure you check the help-wanteds in the Missoula paper, too. Those companies are the ones you can black out in your phone book. Don't bother with those companies that advertise frequently.

ALL of those are not bad companies...Tyson less so than the others, IMHO (In My Humble Opinion).

There is nothing wrong with hauling refer......I have never had problems with any receiver getting unloaded.....and a good outfit will have a trailer getting loaded at a meat plant before you get there.
Produce is a little different but if you use your head few problems there......

I have an uncle who works for Coke as a delivery driver. He's been at that job since 1970, so I guess Coke's not bad to work for. I wish I could have worked for a trucking company that was good enough for me to stay 36 MONTHS, let alone 36 years. Crete was the closest I came.

Sorry it took me a couple days to get back to ya on this, but I spoke with my friend regarding the guarantee Sharkey offers. He said that you will never make less than the guarantee, but if you're $100 over the guarantee one week, and $200 short the next, then you're $100 over again and on the 4th week u hit the guarantee on the money, instead of getting the $200 you had went over, you won't get any overage pay at the end of that fourth week. But, if you get those same dollar amounts over the guarantee every week, then on the fourth week you will get an additional $400. Also, if you need any additional time off other than the weekend, you will not be able to stay on the guarantee. He did recommend that anyone who starts with the company gives it a shot. You can't beat being guaranteed pay, as that means guaranteed miles. The DM's will get harped on by upper management if they're paying money to a driver that their truck isn't making, if ya get what I mean. Let me know if I need to clarify any of this. I've had two 700 mile days in a row and am a lil sleepy right now.

I realize it's been a couple weeks since this thread started, but I just wanted to make one point regarding the previous poster's comments about Maverick's CPM pay. Remember this, CENTS per mile do not equal DOLLARS per week. What I mean is, just because Company A pays more per mile than Company B doesn't mean that a driver for company A is going to bring home more per week than a driver for company B. You could pay me 50 cpm, but if I'm only going to get 1500 mls/wk, I'll stay with my 36cpm and 3000 mls/wk.
