Pete, I think what you're asking is.....does the company provide a school to get your CDL training? If that is your question, yes they do, but it is definitely not company-paid!! You will sign a note for about $6000 for school, plus hotel fees and physical, and they have a program where they will front you like $70/week for meal money. I am fairly sure that Stevens will not check your credit. They will look at your work history, etc. If they hear negative stuff when they do their background and call your previous employers, my sense is they will cut you loose rather than hire you. I know you can be in school a day or two or maybe a little longer (but not much) and if they discharge you for failing your physical or drug test or you just don't qualify for some other reason....they won't charge you anything. Maybe the bus ticket. In my class, we weren't supposed to sign our loan papers until the first Friday. We had a couple guys leave Monday night after they found out we had to take a drug test....not sure how they didn't know that, but anyway, you have a couple days before you're locked in. If you quit or are discharged for something they catch on your app after you sign those loan papers, you're toast. You will still owe them. Not sure how or if they pursue their money, but I'm sure they could ruin your credit without too much effort on their part.
It allows people to show up with very little money, as they will lend you what you need. But keep in mind, I said LEND. You will pay back every single dime through payroll deductions.
You will not be paid anything that isn't a loan until you have your CDL, and are hired as a driver. And then, you will get $350/week gross, less taxes and loan payment. You will not be making much money for a good 3 months. You need to prepare for that. You will have to bring enough cash to feed yourself for a few days and for all of your exams. They will not loan you money for your license exams.
Most companies who take newbies have similar programs. Or, if you go to an independent school, most have loan repayment programs. Most of those schools will check your credit though.justanothercrzytrkdrvr Thanks this. -
Something that happened 24 years ago when you were a teenager probably won't hurt you. But I would be on the phone on Tuesday morning to let Arlinda know you forgot something. When you first fill out an app, they look at all your info and if you have anything criminal or driving related they send your app to the safety officer who makes the decision whether he will let you in or not. Just be upfront and call them. It was an honest mistake. Like I mentioned earlier, you will also get the chance to correct any mistakes on day two with Janice. Coming from Maine, I would make sure they know now. That bus ride will really suck if you have to make the roundtrip in the same week!justanothercrzytrkdrvr Thanks this.

I did not keep track, but I'm sure I hit at least 30-35. Try not to be nervous, it's going to happen, but don't sit and think about it. My worst moment was when the DPS examiner climbed into the truck for my road test. But I still passed.

They send a list that is pretty good, just remember that anything you bring you will be sleeping with. I only had one trainer that saved storage space for his students. All the others had you keep your stuff in your bunk.
