So this is my second company in one month.
Everyone told me to stay away from the “mega” companies but I’ve never been treated this bad before.
I started here with the agreement I’m home after 7 days. 7days on 3 days off. Now it’s 11 on 2 off.
My day starts at 5pm. 65mph truck 600mile runs every. Single. Day. Out of hours so use PC to park. No sleeping at shipper or consignee loading or unloading.
I worked 16hours plus every day this week.

I’m about to give up driving.

edit:Does anyone know any slip seat jobs available in dexter Missouri. I have an auto restriction. I’m tired of living like an animal. Or a job that pays hourly.

I am at a mega and have none of those problems.

The grass is not always greener on the non-mega side I guess.

Before you completely hang it up consider local? I've been hauling milk 2-1/2+ years now. I drive a 2017 kw t880 daycab with 103k miles on it. I'm not on an e-log. I pull full grade tankers and work between 7-10 hours a day. I can work as many days as I want, but go home everyday. I gross $1150 on 6 days, and $1325 on 7 days sometimes more if I get extra loads.

I make decent consistent money and home everyday.

    I’m in a dead area.
I’d love a 10 or even 12 hour work day that got me home everyday. I nodded off at the wheel and had to shut it down yesterday.
they didn’t understand why I might be tired after getting woke up three times by dispatch during my 10 hour break.

    Lostmykey and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Truck drivers are being laid off left and right,
    Right now.
And it's only going to get worse in the coming weeks.
You never mentioned how much you were bringing
    Home working all those hours.

Now is not the time to change jobs.
Especially if they got more work than you
    Can handle.
Consider that a blessing right now.

Get every penny you can, while you can.
You/we have no idea when the pink slip
    Is coming.
Don't forget that 2/3 week period in between
Changing jobs that you won't get a check
    From anyone either.

Why would they be laying truck drivers off? That doesn’t make any sense.

America is stopping whole sale. As in full stop.

They dont want or need or even exist anymore to order freight to deliver to them. One of my smaller hobby stores just informed me that Oregon has one major national distributor of very common parts closed, lights out that ends many containers coming over. That ends many loads shipping out to Chicago etc. Done. Finished. No truck orders. Finis.

No truck orders = no jobs.

What they are asking for now is a reefer trailer or two to drop at funeral homes at 6000 a month to sit and store the dead. Thats the demand now. Not apples from Yakima. There are mountains of that at the stores. No one is buying that yet.

In a month or two when they start stripping THAT after seeing everything else stripped then I know we are in a bad way here as a nation.

The reason we are still open in Arkansas at all is because of our own balanced budget law. If we ordered everything shut then 200,000 to 300,000 unemployed that day. And the budget is cleaned out on unemployment in a month. Then all states agencies must closed. Ending help for about a million.

    No. We stay open.

Yes, it's really bad right now. Job hoppers are going to have more and more problems finding work.
SAP graduates are pretty much off limits right now.
Maverick, one of the better starter companies, is in big trouble and laying off people and lots of other things.
It's the COVID-19 at the root of all of it. The whole planet might go into a deep recession very soon.

I know you said you live a dead area.
It can't be that dead that you don't know
    Whats happening right now.

There trying to shut down the whole country.
Better make dam sure your next job is gonna
Make it through this covid 19 without laying you
    Off first.

Because another driver is gonna take your
70 hours a week your complaining about
Before you even clean out the truck.
