I’ve got a Hino 195 2014 box truck with just over 61,000 miles last week the DEF light came on for bad DEF truck went into limp mode so I drained the tank installed new DEF and That took the truck out of limp mode but the DEF light stayed on I drove it a few more days for work about 200-300 miles it ran fine but went back into limp mode.
I had the truck towed into the Hino dealership and they ran a scan and cake back with this.

Hooked up to DX and retrieved faults for SCR and NOX sensor abnormality. Performed trouble shooting for NOX code P2214. Performed DEF doser quantity test and leak test. Leak test failed and quantity test was over spec. I checked the decomp tube for crystalization and didnt see any deposits. We will need to start with a DEF doser and run a regen to monitor nox levels.

They replaced two parts on the van and I picked it up yesterday paid the bill of 1,400.00
Took the truck about 45 miles down the road the DEF light comes back on and I started losing power once again.
It was late when I dropped it back off the guy said it tossed a few codes and was speaking of
The sprayer or misters that spray the DEF might be bad and they can cost a lot to replace
But they will know more in the morning...
What can cause this problem with my truck I don’t mind paying to fix it but just don’t want to get into them just tossing parts at it because they don’t know what they are doing.

I will update this tomorrow morning when I get more information from the dealership on it

    Thanks Ron

    What's the update?
A six year old truck with 60,000 miles does get around not much. While those type problems are not uncommon in any brands Hinos seem better than many to me.
Do not let them idle long. Do not putter around. Do not shut them down during a regen. If the light for stop and regen comes on, if yours has that, do not ignore that if possible. After a few times of that it will shut you down.
Just to the best of my understanding.
Expect to pay at least 1/3 more than most other brands to fix that.

Looks like they did change Def doser (sprayer /mister). So if it's bad have them do it under warranty. Every time you take the truck to the dealer have them tell you what the codes are, have them take a picture. So if the code come back they can not charge you again to fix it. Have them test drive the truck after repair is done to verify repairs. You may just have issue with the outlet ( downstream) nox sensor.

    BoxCarKidd Thanks this.
