With the state of the auto industry today, a part time employee at K-Mart can afford a new car...............
I made good money and drive a $400 car.....I won't buy another new one.....they are all garbage and overpriced.......well............Maybe the new Mustang GT....
There are too many variables to answer your questions concerning new cars and houses..............
As too Social Security, I am only 45 years old and am too young to collect Social Security. I do collect disability.
What made Hill and Hill such a good company was that they were small and family orientated.
The lady who owned the company had 10 trucks and she was very young (in her 20's). She always treated me well, and worked herself in the dirt to keep me moving. Money was tight and times were hard for her and still, Everything was spot on money wise for her drivers.
She could not afford Insurance but was trying to find a way to get it for us......and that is the only reason to avoid a small company............
Career change to TrUcKiNg......

kcOrey it says in your public profile your 73. Thanx for info. A person may be able to buy a new car working at K-mart but they'd have to sleep in it, and cut back on the food supply.

Huh?????????????????? -
Looikinup in response to your question.I dont drive anymore after a short career with Swift and werner.combined i had been driving since march of 06 and both companys are full of u know what.i know all companys are not the same but between the 2 they left a bad tatse in my mouth and i came to the conclusion the little bit of money i'd make was'nt worth my safety and being away from home long periods of time and having to argue to get my hometime after being out 17 days, low miles(1300-1800) a week, being lied to constantly. So I QUIT WERNER ON NOV 18.
Im actually waiting on my background ck to go through for another company now. They need a courier and it's m-f 8-5pm off weekends and ot if i want it full benefits. It only pays 15 pr hr but doing this i'll make more than i was with both of my previous companys and can be home daily with the family and pets.
I also let this company know i'd probably be leaving in Feb when Pepsi's hiring freeze is over.they start 22.24-24.00 here in Nj so i figure i could
do something until then. -
Seems like those junk food haulers make a decent living, eh?

Yes i am in Plainfield and no i would'nt be able to provide clean mvr.I actually got a ticket in Bx,Ny in 05 and 2 non driving lic suspensions(child support).I also have to get a copy of my DAC to see what Swift put on it as well as Werner.Quit em both because they lied to me saying i would be Ne driver. After i was on the road with my trainer(Swift) told him to tell me no Ne reg positions for a yr.As soon as we got back to the terminal in Memphis Tn i kindly told them they could bus me back home(after being out 3 wks).Basically Werner did the same thing the only difference was they told me for Ne reg i needed 4-6 mths exp,no log viols,no accidents,no late delivs. Not what the recruitter told me to get me there to orientation.Oh you live in Nj we have plenty of positions you could have up there nobody likes NY OR NJ and i was more than willing to do either.Actually i would have run the whole eastern seaboard.

Pissed1, I might be able to help you out. We don't worry about the DAC report here. Check your PM.

Pissed1, your story sounds very similar to mine. I also decided to say the heck with trucking after 5 weeks with Werner. For the little $$ you make, it is absolutely not worth your life( both safety & socially). I got a call from my SDM today asking me if I was coming back & I told her NO. Nov. 12 was my last day. She seemed nice about it & put me down as a VQ(voluntary quit). Is that a bad mark on your work/driving record? It better not be or I'll be HOT. My recruiter at Werner & carrerbuilder.com claimed I could expect to make 35K-40K + benefits my first year. My trainer & I did the math. If you got a lot of those near impossible bonuses & NEVER went home, you just might do it. I am currently in the process of selling my house here in Gulf Breeze, FLA. & plan on moving back to where I grew up(in Ill. near St.Louis), I was talking to an old friend of mine last Thursday who still delivers pizzas at Domino's while I worked there(6 years ago). He said they were hiring drivers, so I applied, had an interview, & am waiting on them to run my MVR & give me a start date. It'll be an OK job until I get my house sold, which I hope is in the springtime. The courrier job you described & are waiting on sounds pretty sweet. $15.00 hr + benefits is good $$$ in this part of the country. I worked for Pepsi 8 years ago down here as a merchandiser(stocked store shelves & put up displays) & it sucked. I guess the Pepsi outfit up there is better than down south. I worked 12-14 hr. days & basically made peanuts. I didn't get paid hourly so there was no overtime. Good luck to you
