What do you guys think if this system? Is it annoying to have engine start and stop vs an Apu set up ?

My 2020 truck has it and the smart park or whatever they call it today. My truck has 8 batteries and electric a/c for the sleeper and diesel fired heater to heat the sleeper and engine coolant. The sleep has extra thick curtains. You can't even keep them open during the day because the are so thick vs regular ones. They don't fit between the cabinets if you try to open them.
I get about 6 hours of heat or a/c before the 8 batteries reach 12.2 or 12.1 volts. Then the engine will start and run 2 hours to recharge. So during a 10 hour break it will start one time. During a 34 hour reset it so this 3 times. Generally at during the 3 time the DPF will get full and it will do a parked Regen. I have noticed every 6 hours of idle time it will do a parked regen automatically.
I have noticed in really cold temps like 15F and cold it pushing the limits of the heat. I think because it's also heating all the coolant also. You have close the sleeper curtains to keep warm or cool. When the engine is running it will use the engine heat to warm the sleeper. I have noticed when it really cold say 15F or less because the engine is cold basically and it has hard time warming up it can get a little cold in sleeper untill the engine can warm the coolant. I have watch the coolant temp dash gauge says 150 when the the sleeper heater if doing all the work. When the engine would start and take over the the coolant will drop on really cold nights or days till the engine can warm it back up.
Freightliner has the only air vents on the driver side in sleeper. I like it better when the vents were on passenger side in sleeper. The system also has INTERIOR COMFORT MODE. The mode basically keeps the front of cab warm or cool by running the engine and Turing on the front dash fan. It seems to work off the sleeper thermostat and the sleeper can be warm or cool and front cab is cold or hot when the sun is shining. I should try closing the windshield front curtains and see how the system works.
It seem to save a lot of fuel. I don't notice the engine starting at night anymore. It has big alternator some like 250amp to recharge 8 batteries. It has the standard 4 batteries on drivers side like all trucks. The other 4 batteries are behind sleeper between the frame rails. The same setup the Century trucks had.magoo68 Thanks this. -

After my famous Salinas Americold 84 hour wait we emptied that 100 gallon tank maintaining -20 precool in the heat. And emptied the tractor tanks as well. Im pretty sure they wont be doing that again after getting that 400 gallon fuel bill 30 minutes after loading. Call it close to 800 gallons wasted just for Americold after we filled everything before waiting ready to go and after.Farmerbob1 Thanks this.
