    Hi

I'm a company driver ready to become an owner operator in the near future. I reside in probably one of the worst regions for trucking in the country, Florida (specifically South Florida). I keep hearing the same complaint from many truckers, low rates and a lot of deadheading. Not to mention having to keep up with the high cost of living down here. Just doesn't make financial sense. All in all, I don't see a future for myself in this state as an O/O. I'm ready to relocate to another region/city to make the most of my time as an O/O. I'm set on local and regional power only runs pulling containers (intermodal). But I'm not excluding dry van, reefer, flatbed either.

That being said, what cities/areas on the east coast (in your experience) are known for good paying and consistent work?
    Savannah, Charleston,...
Or further up north NJ/NYC, Providence, Boston, Worcester...?

Hope yall are staying safe and healthy

This is a bad/terrible, time to get into intermodal work as an 0/0 or company driver.
Because of COVID-19, ships arriving at the ports have been dramatically reduced and it's only going to get worse.
Many intermodal 0/0's are out of work and even big companies such as CMI in California are starting to have financial problems.

    This is the worst time.

I don't even wanna know the container losses at Seagirt even. (Baltimore) Or the inland front royal etc. (Railroads)

Don't do the seacans this year, wait at least 18 months. It will come back, but not until then.

We have a stack train with Union Pacific on our St Louis mainline daily. Sometimes two times daily. Its their hottest land bridge container set east some west usually empty. 4 engines sometimes a 5th slave remote in the rear. All out at 80 speed limit with hundreds upgrade. Shakes the very ground. When that one picture rattles and I hear that blowing thats the stack train coming through or two coal trains executing a rolling meet.

The last stack train was one older engine non AC Class Power and about 25 or so well cars, half empty and a scattering of singles. Once daily.

Thats our economy right now visualized.

I operate out port of seattle/tacoma and I ports are pretty busy. They shut down ports for just a day during the week because of covid but other than that it's pretty busy. Here is the link for directory of brokers or even direct shippers in all states.
    Intermodal Directory - Select State
At least start making calls and see where it goes. Broker or shipper will tell you if it's a good time or not.

It's getting hit/miss, I run out of the rail in Denver, delayed trains, late trains, poor scheduling due to reduced ship traffic results in rolled bookings or cancelled bookings. We stayed super busy during the last 3 months, except for a brief 10 day slow down, now, it's slowing again, our outbound bean loads are done till late August, Millett is staying busy outbound, inbound can be a joke. BNSF is always full of SWIFT/JB/Schneider/LTL cans and pigs, not a lot of seacans. UPRR is hit/miss too, they loaded a train yesterday and it nearly cleared the ramp, maybe 40% full, around midday today they pushed in a train that took up 3 of 4 unloading tracks, they'll clear it in no time, but there's not much to put on it. We've gone from 60 hr weeks to 45 hr weeks. Dispatch was just commenting rest of this week and next week are very slow, week before and week of the 4th are busy, beyond that, hard to say. We have a lot of other bookings that have rolled or cancelled for various reasons. One huge booking may have switched to OTR due to cheap rates.
