I was planing on buying a PA speaker and only seen 8 watt speakers. I don't think that's loud enough to hear over a diesel motor.

Anyone here have an 8 watt speaker that can confirm this or a more powerful one that they can recommend?

I think that the output is 8 watt, but you can use a bigger speaker if you want to. . .

Don't know if it will be any louder.

I bought an outdoor speaker from Radio Shack, 50 watt, but it was only 25 bucks. And it is small enough to fit under the hood.

I'll post my results in a few days when I get everything wired up.

I use a Barjan talk back speaker for my radio. love it, not sure exactly why. Have yet to see another one like it since I bought it 16 years ago at the Lee High TruckStop in Lee High, VA. Got plenty of scratches and dings, but still works great compared to the little stock speaker in the CB itsself. And yes, I also use a PA function with a loud speaker on a CB in my PU trk, as when you go to events, or other outside functions, it allows you to communicate with the crowd you are trying to talk to in a group type setting. (also handy for yelling at dummies in the way..LOL!)

My last radio (PC68LTW) I went out and purchased a PA horn. It was more the less just a toy for me.

I have used the PA a time or two during traffic when behind some slow poke to yell at them.

Another time I (like the gentleman I am) held the door open for a pretty lady who didn't even bother to thank me, so as I'm about to leave she walks out, I get on my PA and pretty much tell her how I felt about her not at least giving me thanks.....she looked at me weird but couldn't see me because it was 10:30 or so at night.

But the best times were when I'd flip to the weather bands on the PC68LTW.....you could get a "weather report" from my truck! :biggrin_2559: People would stop and look at my truck puzzled.....it was almost like I had a Knight Rider car that talked.

Unfortunately after I sold my PC68LTW I purchased an SS158EDX radio that doesn't have a PA set up on it. :biggrin_25513: But after I got it, I ended up buying 2 older Cobra radios that have the PA set up, so I might just use one of them.

One thing I have noticed, my PA speaker is not very loud....I'd love to find one that was really loud, as to be heard over my Flowmaster exhaust.

Jeffro115 I'd like to hear the result of that 50 watt speaker of yours....

PA speakers are great to tell morons to get out of your way! :biggrin_2559: Just don't ever do it near a cop because it is illegal and you could receive a hefty fine for it. :biggrin_25525:
