12.7 Horsepower increase

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site. Honestly not sure if I'm at the right place. I've read a lot of good communication going back and forth on increasing horsepower/torque and must say I've learned a lot even after being in the mechanic field 30+ years. I'm looking for some advise. I have a 2000 12.7 430/470 at all factory settings. The engine is a 6067MK60 with 4912 Cam and 6977 injectors. The truck has 1.2 million miles and has had nothing but a head gasket at 700,000. I'm planning to do an in frame in the near future as I think I'm running on borrowed time. When I do this, I'd like to up horsepower/torque. I'm already going to be replacing sleeves/pistons/injectors/turbo, etc. so why not get what I want. I realize I also need a tune and was looking for opinions on the different types. Meaning, some guys have you send them your ecm, others send a kit with a down load in it that can be captured it your ecm fails(so I'm told). Which is better?? I'm looking for 550-600 wheel hp and 1800-2000 torque. Is that possible? and what injectors would be best? Already planning on a 171702 turbo. I'd rather not change the cam unless I find it worn when I get into it.

 

Banker, did you put the box on without making any parts changes?

 

Any idea what you're getting? HP/torque? I know I need a tune, but I want to make sure I've got the right parts for the tune and it stays together. And I know the parts I need depends on what tune I want. I'm just looking for advise on what others have done. What worked, what didn't work. Seen a few comments about engine smoking at startup with 15/1 pistons with a tune, but 15/1 pistons can generate more power with increased boost. 550-600 and 1800-2000 is what I'm after.

 

mtntopbound, that sounds just like what I'm looking for. I'm assuming your cam is not the 4912 and your block probably has piston cooling nozzles. Don't think mine does but they can be added.
