Flatbed freight

still having good luck western canada to mid west USA back to western canada.

 

This week was worst than last in the same lane. I couldnt get a load with any profit out of north florida or GA that was worth the time it would cost. Last week i was able to get an $800 no tarp load from south georgia to knoxville and that was borderline worth it.

When it looks bleak i cold call industrial places to pass the time. It hasnt gotten me a load yet but i do gain a lot of useful tidbits that help for the future. I got so tired of the same 2 covered loads being reposted by 10 brokers all day that i called the warehousing company i realized they were at and got a carrier packet setup direct. Next week, i will try to plan everything around a booking there and to hell with DAT eating up my data.

 

Oh and 2 steel mills that normally put a lot of overflow on the market said they have their own drivers sitting. So that should tell you how aggressive this contraction is, huge drop in production.

When wallstreet gets the hard numbers of this present darkness theyre gonna run from the stock market bleachers and probably crash the price. A correction was 10 yrs overdue but im pretty sure everything is too big to fail now and will be propped up by the fed printing press all over again.

Youll be able to withdraw toilet paper at the ATM atleast.

what if I bought a log truck cab & chassis straight jobber with a sleeper.... 18 speed ... 565hp x15 cummins and maybe decided to toss a flatbed on it and haul the East Coast.... Maine to Florida

Steel is in the toilet. Major market contraction predicted for the next quarter, possibly the next two quarters.

Lumber has always been cheap and heavy, not a lot of profit margin there for anybody (including supplier), so no surprise there.

Aluminum has way more trucks than needed, way over capacity for that market. Freight is still moving, but every major flatbedding outfit is splitting each other's throat rate wise to keep their trucks loaded. Not a friendly market for a single truck operation.

Tighten those belts, troops. This economy doesn't open soon, 2008 is gonna look like the "good old days" in comparison.
