High soot level

    Hi everyone
    I have Volvo d13 2013 650 000 miles.
    I own this truck for 2 years.2 weeks ago i have to change def doser due to code spn 5394.
    It helps but I decided to clean (bake) d0f and doc filters.
    B4 cleaning i had about 20% of soot level.
    The guy who was cleaning a filters (Sandi in Wood Dale IL) said the both filters are junk so I buy a used one but ckean from him.
    After installing those filters my soot level is showing about 70% at Letter A on guage.
    It doesn't seems right in my opinion or every filter ia showing different soot level?
    I have done 500 miles and nothing happens so far.After 200 miles it just come up from zero to 70% of soot and stop there.
    Also I have done forced regen after installing and reset soot level. (OTR performance tool)
    Why the soot level is so high on guage if the filters are clean?

    That little black triangle above the soot level line is actually 100%. It also depends what load you have for those first 500 miles, heavy load do better for helping soot burn. Do you remember what FMI that code 5394 had???

    Hi
    It was 5394 fmi 17.But after a I replace Def doser never seen that code again.
    Today after pick up during driving soot level went down to 20% so pasive regen is working. After I stop for fuel and back on hgwy soot is going up again.
    B4 I change a filters mu soot level was always about 20% and go back and forward just a litlle bit!!
    .So I don't know what to think about this.Are the filters are bad or this is how it supposed to be?
    Maybe ECU learning a data?
    I always have about 40 000lb load.

    Maybe the sensor is half pluged up that determines the soot level, could explain the various readings. How is the fuel economy, and engine power? Does it act like the DPF is plugged up?

    Do you have soot loading in your trucks oil? Is it a silvery grey? Have you checked your DOC, that can degrade and face plug the dpf filter causing failure(you said that the guy cleaning it claimed it was junk why?) Do you have the white def rocky stuff(forget the technical term for it)building up from the doser valve to the DPF and heater box? If the Doser valve malfunctions (Spray faulty)this can cause build up and plug the DPF filter. Is your heater box failing? This is unlikely but possible, they do fail but it usually happens later in terms of miles. Do you idle lots? DPF systems absolutely hate it because they plug up. Need to check over things before you throw more money at it. Might be worthwhile to have a place with the volvo tech tool do an evaluation of your trucks emissions system, cost is approx. 300 or so. I do it now about once every year and a half.
    OTR performance tool does not solve the problem, it just hides it, DOES NOT fix the problem.

    You will need to spend sometime on this before you have worse and more costly problems with it.
