Hi I have a 2014 Kenworth T680 with an ISX bought it with about 450,000 miles on 2/1/19
On 7/1/19 Truck went into the TA in Texas had to buy a new DPF Filter they said old one was bad so they got a new one at Kenworth after everything bill was about 4K
On 4/10/20 at 614,000 miles Truck is in California and the shop said the same thing it needs new Filter.
Called the TA in Texas they said it should be covered under warranty, he said they would have to investigate first why it failed and if nothing else was the problem they would cover it.
Driver is on his way to the nearest TA about 1Hr away.
My question is what is the life span of this filters and is it normal to change them every couple months it seems like. Truck has had no issues at all this was the first thing it did red check engine on and derated.
I have a second truck just like this and I have had to replace the Filter on it too about 6 months after buying it.

I'd expect to see at least 5,000 hours out of a DOC and DPF before it needs replacement/cleaning.

Now here's the kicker: the DPF catches everything the engine puts out the exhaust. If you've got polished liners, stuck EGR, leaking EGR cooler etc your engine is the root cause and DPF is contingent damage. Changing DPF out is not going to solve the issue.

Why was it changed the first and possibly the 2nd time? Too frequent regens? Is it consuming oil or coolant?

    Andreybanyuk and BoxCarKidd Thank this.

    Thanks for the reply
    Truck is not using coolant
    or oil
these trucks other than the dpf have been great

and it does normal regens it almost never asks for a parked regen usually does it on its own
the first filter was changed out because they said that it was bad not worth cleaning it. I really tried to get then to just clean it or bake it but they would not do it.
When I bought them from Kenworth I asked the sales guy if he would bake them and clean them for us before we bought the trucks he said they stopped doing this on the trucks that they sell because it causes them too many problems and money

How often does it do passive regens?

Did they change the DOC (the catalyst) the first time? They do degrade and wear out over time.

They had quoted me abut 14k to change both filters so they only cleaned the DOC and they installed a new DPF. I am hoping that their warranty does cover it. I am not looking foward to spending another 4K right now. I will find out by the driver how often it does those passive regens.

The dpf is only about $2400 before the core return. Mines is about $1700 after core return. I don't have a DOC.

Most places would rather sell a new filter instead of clean the old one. It's $2300 in labor just for a tech to remove three exhaust clamps and loosen two bolts to get my filter out.

Just get the codes out of your engine. Probably a bad sensor causing all of your problems.

    Update on this filters.
After arriving at the first TA driver was told they do not work on dpf filters so they sent us to another TA 5 hrs away truck made it there check engine lights went off on the way. When they checked the truck at TA in Barstow they said the filters where fine and that when Texas TA replaced the filters they did not have the right computer to reset the Ash levels so the truck thinks that filters are bad but they are actually good. I thought this was complete bs but they did not want to work on the truck they said they only did work on freightliners when it comes to dpf. And yes I was right brought it to Az took it to our local shop and he pulled the filter out and yes they are clogged having them baked now

If they're clogged up that quickly, you've got an issue causing it.

Your emissions system including the Dpf will last alot longer if you dont Idle the truck. Get yourself an apu and it will last at least twice as long.

    Yes thank you
The mechanic told the same thing he said it all depends how much the truck idles he said if you have to idle for hours put it on high idle at least and try to avoid idling for hours.

    rachi Thanks this.
