Truck 2. The ISX turbo is not cheap by any means. Almost all the Acert system can be bypassed if you wish so don't let that system scare you. I've got 2 bone stock and have honestly had ZERO major issues with either. Just small stuff like blown bellow between the turbos on a C13 and a couple sensors and a loose wire on the VVA's on a C15.

Fuel mileage is between 5.5 and 6.5 for my application. (all local stop and go and some heavy haul 115k)

Neither is without fault but at least any issues with the CAT can be fixed and your left with a bulletproof platform.

Truck #1 has a real hood too, they are both W900L's, just one is a ex company rocket, and spec'd as such.

In all honesty, for me, the 18 speed is total overkill, and more or less adds weight I will never be able to justify, I just simply do not pull heavy enough loads over large grades enough times to make a 18 speed worth it, but I will admit, the odd time you could use it, it's great.

That's what i figured too, stick with CAT. I figured someone, somewhere, has to have these ACERT's figured out, and have a way to make them more reliable and efficient.

As the days go by I get more and more convinced on the CAT, always loved that yellow paint.

Don't know how I missed that, but anyway, not sure how long you would plan on keeping either truck but truck 2 would be alot easier to sell down the road. The 18spd's dry weight is the same as the 13spd if both are rated for 1850lbs.ft.

Well, I think I would keep truck #2 a lot longer since it is what I always dreamed of, although I will admit, I like the 2002 to beginning of 2006 dash's, not a big fan of the switches they are using on the late 06 to current dash's. I like my long toggle switches.

I think I would keep truck #2 for 5 years if it wasn't turning into a money bucket in 3 years. Truck #1 would be more of a stepping stone in my career, something light and cheaper to give me an edge over the heavier guys for the first few years.

Rockwood makes the newer style dash and switch's look good or at least tolerable.I also prefer the dashboard I had in my 02 Pete.Good luck with your decision.

Does anyone know what the turbo's for the ACERT cat engines are worth? Hopefully someone here can share there experience with me if someone here has had to replace 2 turbo's on that engine. I think if I knew what it would cost it wouldn't be so bad, all I keep hearing is, it is a lot, well, how much, need a figure to put in my head.

I would just pray that something wouldn't go wrong in one turbo, and send parts flying into the second turbo, and if it doesn't stop there, right into the cylinders....well....now your goose is cooked.

If your worried Cat used to offer turbo insurance. Not sure if they still do though. At 50psi neither turbo is working very hard so they should in theory last as long as any single as long as there isn't any lubrication issues or foreign objects.

I've got an '01 C15 that's ate 2 turbos in about 2 yrs with no adverse motor issues. Intercooler seems to be a good aluminum chunk filter.:biggrin_25523:

The ACERT turbos will live a long life as long as you don't over speed them, usually done by pinching off the waste gate line.

There are "fixes" for both engines. The EGR on the Cummins can be bypassed by simply unplugging it. Hard to believe it's that simple but reports are a healthy increase in power and MPG by doing so. The ACERT has many cheap fixes that will do the same and all are listed here in one place or another.

Nothing in life ever seems to go that easy and that simple. Your telling me that on a ISX, if you simply unplug it, that's it? It doesn't screw with the mixture and make things haywire and cause internal damage after 100,000 miles?

Are you talking about unplugging the EGR valve? The company truck I currently drive is a 2005 Kenworth W900 with a 450 ISX in it. The EGR valve recently went for the 4th time. It was a somewhat weird situation. You would be going down the highway, and the check engine light would come on, stay on for about 15 minutes, then go out for about 5-10, and it would repeat this cycle over and over. In the city, or idling, that light would not come on for anything. I noticed though, as soon as the check engine light came on, it immediatly grew a bit louder, and seemed to pull better, as if it was "free'd up"
