We can pretend that we sympathize with each other, blaming it all on brokers and perhaps the feelings are not so completely false. BUT the brutal and shameful truth is that we are impatiently waiting for others to bleed out and leave the market before we bleed out ourselves, with accordance to the Darwin's law.

Do you have one year of experience 30 times or do you actually have 30 years of experience?
What I mean by that is if you only repeat what you learned once and don't adapt to changing times you really only have very little experience. Times change. You must learn to adapt. Learn new negotiating tools.Wasted Thyme, Deere hunter, clausland and 2 others Thank this. -
Believe me, I definitely have 30 years of experience!

Wombat, I was going to post a link for a thread about price gouging, those $5 a mile corona loads.
Thanks to a carrier near my Indiana place, I have a couple new customers. They tried to rape the customer by doubling their rates thanks to this crap, that's gouging.Deere hunter and Big_D409 Thank this. -
From Wikipedia
Price gouging occurs when a seller increases the prices of goods, services or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair. Usually, this event occurs after a demand or supply shockclausland Thanks this. -

A few years back right after a hurricane, power was out and was expected to be out for weeks in most places. People needed gas, but no pumps running due to no power.
Well, one enterprising business owner set up a hand pump to pump the gasoline out of his tanks for willing customers to buy, at over $5 a gallon. People screamed price gouging and turned him in to the State. State investigated, business owner says, look I'm providing a service, and I'm not forcing anyone to buy from me. Do you think me setting this hand pump up and hiring a guy to hand pump the gas is free.....
As others have said, it comes down to supply & demand. Do you think the broker is hauling those loads? No, but if they can get someone to haul it for $1 a mile, they'll do it. If they can't get someone to haul it for $1 a mile, the rates will come up won't they. Guess what, it's not their fault there's 200 trucks to one load and get used to this until the ratio of loads & trucks improves.
This supply & demand thing aint rocket science, but to point blame at brokers for something beyond their control is wrong. That's probably why you're not getting much sympathy here.D.Tibbitt, Swine hauler, TallJoe and 4 others Thank this. -
If it were the other way around, everyone would be merry. If enough guys park, then things might even out. However I prefer the survival of the fittest mindset. If folks can turn a profit, or at least break even, then fantastic!
I get my truck back together and I’ll gladly grab gears for whoever needs me. I also know my operating cost so you know when to call it quits.Dale thompson and TallJoe Thank this. -
You haven't even spent 1 day in this industry yet.
