I just have to give a quick shout out to Johnny Cash.
The reason why it not just because of his legend. But there is something about this man that has attracted old people and youngers also, millennials love this man. That says something about his artistic ability. This man has survived music evolution some how. I don't entirely understand how. But music is something I follow... ALL genres from Classical to Metal.
The best example I can find to show Cash's ability is his remake of NIN Hurt. I grew up with NIN and other artists like him. But Cash got a hold of the song and made it better, and even younger people coming after me are saying the same thing. Even now that he is gone Cash has carved his place and it's not going anywhere.
And it's not just his ability to sing and deliver the song, but from the youtube video the imagery is very moving and expressive. All of that together encompasses a works of art.not4hire and Road*Runner Thank this. -

If you love music, then perhaps the best thing you can do is ditch mp3 and go to a lossless format like FLAC. Get a good portable DAC to jack into your system. -
Had to look through everyone else's answers and remove repeats. So here's a selection of something a little different.
Doobie Brothers: Long Train Runnin
Jamiraqui: Time Won't Wait
Dancing in the Moonlight: Johnny Lectro remix
Kennedy: I know Karate
Chromeo: White Women (album)
Black Keys: El Camino (album)
LMFAO: Party Rock Anthem
Pitbull: Calle Ocho
Black Eyed Peas: Imma Be/Rock That Body (two part song)
Daft Punk: Voyager (album)
Blues Brothers Soundtrack
Yoriko: Break the Cocoon (it's Japanese, but don't worry, it's a rock banger.)
Deadmau5-Davie504: Strobe (Sparkee remix)
Thumbs up to anyone who's never heard of any of these songs, check em out. I think you'll like them. -
Oh, also, Foo Fighters Sonic Highways is a great album.
I've never been one for the "concept album" but this was a great project. Each track is based on a city in the US.
I don't know if I should spoil it by telling you which songs go with which cities, so I'll let you decide if you want to know that going into or if you wanna try to guess.
