Been thinking of getting into this industry. I'm in my 30's and not happy with my current situation. I have been unemployed for two yrs now.

I have some questions. Hoping to get some answers. I have contacted a local tech school here and was told I needed to get my "full" driving record. I am thinking I might already be screwed. I have a DUI from 11 yrs ago. Had my fair share of speeding tickets and accidents. During the last 3 yrs my record has been fairly clean all but a red light ticket. I contacted the person that sent me the info on the school and asked if my past driving record will prevent me from getting my CDL and she told me I have to pay the app fee and take the basic ed test before she can answer any questions. She is clearly try to get her hand in my pocket for the app fee. I also have a felony from 10 yrs ago for embezzlement.

I have seen companies online saying they will train/hire with no serious moving violations in the past 3 yrs and no felony past 10 yrs. How true is this?

Then I have heard from other that your driving record has to be spotless for 10 yrs before you can even think about a CDL?

So, can anyone give me any hope? I appreciate it. All I wanna do is better myself.

    Hello Creed

    Welcome to the Forum

To try and help answer your questions, have you tried with your local Community College and their Truck Driver Training Program?

You are correct about that application fee. Do NOT pay it.

I would suggest that you take a 10 year motor vehicle report (MVR) with you to speak with administration at the Community College. They should be able to help you with who is hiring in your area and if you would qualify to roll for them.

There are a few companies that utilize the 3 year MVR. This is based on what their insurance carrier requires of them. Most require either 5 or 10 year MVR. Then you could also have a background check required of you.

    Best of luck!
