Just because a guy is able to obtain a better rate than spot market average during tight capacity, has nothing to do with gouging, or shooting for the stars.
It's called supply and demand...
I've never gouged a broker anymore than a broker has taken advantage of me with a lower rate than I thought I deserved.
No one is forcing either negotiating side to make a deal.
As far as brokers "remembering" only those who treated them fairly in the past during tougher times, c'mon man, it goes back to supply and demand.
There isn't a loyalty rule in effect on the spot market.
A one man operation has no leverage of capacity to offer, especially on the spot market.
I've had brokers I've done business with, servicing a particular customer, call me and tell me their shipper dropped their rate by a certain amount.
It's up to me to decide if I want to accept that rate or not. No butthurt feelings, it's just business.
It's the choice a guy who runs under his own authority, booking his own loads, ultimately makes.
If the spot market drops to $1.50 a mile on my lane, it's up to me to decide if I want to take it.
If I choose to park it and stay home and wait it out, because I can, that's up to me. If I choose to hop in someone else's truck and drive for them for awhile because they have freight, that's my choice too.
Truck driving is a very unique industry. More so than any other business I've ever been involved in.
Reefer & all now getting hit hard!!!

Ive been looking into this and think its kinda fakish news. Ive been doing TN to FL non stop loads for about a month. My mother lives in North FL, my inlaws in south florida. My deliveries were in west palm and frostproof.. I did a lot of everglade miles.. Came through center of the state on 75 then county roads. One of the deliveries is to a wealthy citrus client. No one i asked has said anything about a crop crisis and i certainly saw no evidence of it. I didnt see any ripe fruit besides oranges which were being hauled to the juiceplants.
I also asked on the radio whenever i saw an ag hauler. Not much info there.. No radio or no english.
It seems south floridians arent aware of an issue where the issue supposedly is. However.. There was a common theme down there.. "Howd you get in man, arent the roads shut down?"
I was asked that like 5x. People in the everglades are being told theres roadblocks all along the state entry roads up north which is a lie. I hardly saw a chickenhouse open and never once saw anyone doing anything at the stupid agricultural checkpoints. Thats the biggest waste of taxpayer money ever.
Anyway.. Some fishy stuff i reckon. I meant to call some canning plants on friday just to inquire but got caught up in other stuff. -

Just to say this, the unenployment and the $1200'check are NOT HANDOUTS!
This is our money that we will have to pay for.
Take it, bank it and put it back into the economy because if you don't get it, it will be spent and it will be paid for by you,
Remember we screwed ourselves by being lazy and NOT telling congress and the states not to shut everything down, we are not children.larry2903, Rubber duck kw, nredfor88 and 2 others Thank this. -
