Two points before I start my reply.
    1. I am now retired and can only say what I would do if still active.
    2. I am not sure if you are talking about trucking or technology or a mixture of both.

I would always try to help a driver trying to get into a hole if they allowed me to do so. There are so many bullheaded drivers out there that I just asked once and let it go. As far as tech goes. It's almost impossible to know if someone is struggling unless they ask. I have helped drivers sitting at places like a fishhook reinstall an OS. I helped a guy once at the Atlanta Petro downgrade his new Vista laptop back to XP. I used my laptop and a USB stick to find drivers. To be honest though. Most of the 'old hands" are not as tech-savvy as a young guy. Every once in a while you can find one of us. To be 100% clear, I am not calling "old hands" ignorant or stupid. I am saying they were never exposed to this tech growing up and today their technical expertise is that power on button.

I just graduated mine about a year ago if you recall. ;) My company provided me with a flip fone, but took it back when we went full ELD /Qualcomm. My wife and son bought me a dang Galaxy and I still get lost. Too many things on the screen I don't need. :(
