Fog lights only come on with the brights. Really need them to work with the dims since the dims are so weak for night driving. How can I get them to work with the dims only?

Rewire them, should fix it. Have it wired so when you kick the dims on, the wires supply power do the fog lights.

I believe you need to take it to the dealer. They need to re-program the "lighting control unit"...or LCU for short. Please, let us know what you find out and how you corrected the problem. I've read about this before on this forum and I have the same problem on my truck.

There are two types of fog lights one works with the low beams and one with the brights. Some trucks are equipped with both but some have only one set either works with low or high beams. You can either rewire like insert name says or you can go to the dealer and get the double fog lights like bossboy says but you will need to change the harness too.Rewiring would be cheaper but it will bother the oncoming drivers i think, if you only have the ones that are suppose to work with the high beams. Those will be the ones one the top of the fog light assembly. The ones you are missing are the ones that are suppose to be on the bottom inside the fog light assembly and work with the low beams.

as Mlaz Bogdanci said
if the flog light you are talking about or the upper ones they are not fog lights but driving lights
you can do all the rewiring you want but they still will not work on lowbeam the LCM "light control Module" will need to be reprogramed and a $50 wiring harness to make them work on lowbeam and as they are not fog lights if you hit fog/snow with them on they will blind you (to brite and aimed to high with the wrong pattern)
best thing to do (i just did this 2 months ago) upgrade to the fog light driving light combo $140 for each side, $50 for the wiring harness, upgrade programing for the LCM (if yours doesn't have it the setting for both) that way when you turn on the FOG LIGHTS you will have them and when you switce to high beams you will have the DRIVING lights... well worth the money
the lights & wiring is $330 (they come with new bulbs) labor to install 1hr (you can do the install yourself to save that) they (dealer) will need to plug into the the truck to reprogram the LCM 1 hr and if your trucks LCM doesn't have the fog light as a option then the dealer will need to BUY the program from volve (about $50)
dam well worth the moneyMlaz Bogdanci Thanks this. -
Old thread I know, but I have a Volvo vnl 670 without fogs... I was wanting to add the oem style fogs.
Is there a plug tucked away ? I feel like there should be one...I have the option for fogs on my light control unit inside the truck... Just curious if it's as simple as plug an play -
Yes and no depending on YOUR truck.
IF your bumper has the mounts
IF your headlight switch has the fog lights.
Then yes its e z to add them. $400 for all the parts ADD a trip to the dealer to reprogram the LCM...
If your truck doesn't have the mounts and the right switch then it closer to $2,000
DON'T get the fog lights... for $10-$20 more get the fog/driving light setVanilla V2 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the reply, I do not have cutouts but I figured I could dremal tool it out in the bumper and plug and play.
It might be easier to hard wire and slap a switch in there lol. -
You need to LOOK at the backside of the bumper....
The fog/driving lights have a strange mount... the fog/driving lights REQUIRE a box on the backside of the bumper with 2-3 holes on the frame side... the lights slide in the from the front and are bolted in from the side.
For easy of Assembly and it cut down on spare parts all vnl trucks use the same MAIN wiring harness so to add the lights you just need the fog/driving light wiring harness (around $60) and plug it into the main harness on the passenger side. You head light switch MUST have the off, parking, headlight, ADD the heahlight +, (4 Position not 3 position switch)
A wracking yard can be a good place to get the factory parts for less...
It's a really good upgrade to do. BTW most people don't know that the fog/druving lights are adjustable (2 screws on the front) -

I know and more than a few times people think they are to remove the front plastic cover and theybreak the adjusting screws on the front of the foglight inside. BTW Volvo dealerships now carry LED foglights for about 170 per pair.flood Thanks this.
