When it comes to open deck work. A ladder is your best friend. The ones who hop and jump and what not, will end up injured. It is a matter of when, not if.

Why would u hop onto the flatbed. Bad idea. And dont ever jump down from the side either. Use dot bar at back of trailer and stand on that then grab rub rail and something at back and pull urself up. Or get on catwalk on truck and walk up trailer. Flatbed is rough on ur body as it is , dont need extra stress on joints and muscles by doing something stupid like jumping off and on the deckDeere hunter, x1Heavy, Selva and 1 other person Thank this.

Gaining weight gives everyone a permit to park at fuel pumps for their 10 hour break, 30 minute break, shower, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, etc.

10- 4 ! be careful and dont be afraid to ask questions. Most flatbedders are good ppl. Sometimes u get guys that been doing it for 100 years and if u dont do it their way then ur wrong. Take their advice, as most of it is useful, but find the way u like to do things and dont be discouraged if it takes u longer than everybody else to tarp and tie down. It takes awhile to find a good rhythm and be able to look at a load u never hauled and figure out how to secure it within legal regs..... Just dont rush , especially when ur on top of that deck. It aint fun falling off... if u ever are stumped on securement , post a pic in flatbed forum and somebody will come to ur rescue. Good luck brotherSelva Thanks this.

the thing is, not all companies do these tests. i think the underlining issue here would be workman's comp claims, if one is even borderline passable.
and IF all companies started doing this sort of testing?
i'd only surmise (never assume), that nearly 80 % of the newbies would be told to go home, and the drivers working now, at thier next DOT physical?
only about 5% might, and i say might pass. the rest?
would be told to go home, or should be told to go home.
this industry lends itself to a sedimentary lifestyle, over-eating and poor hygiene. diabetes, blood pressure, even cholesterol problems are abundant with drivers. as well as perhaps urinary problems (i know i was one) that do not stop and relieve themselves often enough and cause urinary problems.
drivers as a whole, although not every single one of them, are just not taking good care of themselves, and costing companies thousands of dollars a year in health treatments, and workman's comp claims. and then many drivers have the gall to complain that thier weekly deductible from thier paychecks are so darned high.
well duh...take better care of yourselves......booley Thanks this. -
A number of flatbed companies do some sort pre employment physical testing. It is a multi-use program. Part is to see if you have any health conditions that could impact your job performance. High blood pressure or possible heart conditions will show up on the stress testing part. Then to see if you have any mobility type problems, can you move in a confined space, keep your balance, and last to give a base line for your overall condition. If you should get injured, then they have a point of reference for rehabilitation.
