Every o/o or driver that drives for a o/o leased onto L/S must have hazmat endorsment. This does not mean you have to haul hazmat but you have to have the endorsment.

    elpuft Thanks this.

just wanting to know if you had to have your hazmat before leasing on? i was told by the recruiter that i had 60 days after i leased on to obtain it.i was getting my paperwork sent in for final approval when she said she needed my license faxed in with my hazmat endorsment on it.i told her that i had been finger printed and was cleared to get my hazmat. she told me they would not let me lease on until i had my hazmat on my license.i told her what the recruiter said and she told me that the recruiter was wrong.this btw was coming from the qualifaction center.has anyone else had this problem,i mean i tried to get my hazmat but the county i reside in only does it on wed and fri,but they are closed tomorrow.

I agree. waaayyyy back (6 months ago) before I got my own authority, any place I applied to required me to have to the actual endorsement even though my backgroud was being completed. Get it before you apply, get your TWIC card as well, you never know when u will need it.

Although I've had that endorsement in the past as a company driver, I'm avoiding it as an O/O due to insurance and all the other paperwork / headache stuff that comes along with it. Maybe that's just my perception, but no hazmat for me:biggrin_25516:

Ive been with Landstar for 8 yrs. I had to have hazmat before going to work. I havent applied for twic and have only needed it on two loads that I can remember over all, so far its not been worth the hassel and added expense.
