Can anyone tell me what kind of electrical outlets are available in most trucks? What are refrigerators and microwaves plugged into? Do the trucks have televisions, or is that something that you put in yourself? Do I have to have a car charger to charge a cellphone?
Also, what's the best way to get internet service for a laptop? I assume you would have to have a wireless card but from what I've seen online, you would only be able to get service at places that had internet available. I also saw an option to get broadband service but that looks like it costs about $60 a month.
Appliances and Electronics in the truck?

Ok, never mind the question about how the appliances run in the truck. I just saw a previous post that you have to get an inverter. And the reason I was asking about if tv's and appliances are in the trucks is because everyone talks about having them. So, I guess the answer to that is if you want them, you put them in.
I'd still like a reply to the laptop/internet service question if anyone has any input. -
Verizon air card.

Yup. It operates as a backup phone through Skype too, so there's another reason to get one rather than rely on trying to find a place with internet.

Especially when you spend time at the docks.

Most trucks have a half of dozen or so power outlets, but your cooler and TV have to be AC/DC to work. I don't know if trucks with APU's regular have AC plugs or how many.

I did see a microwave called a Wave Box that had 110, 12v and 12v alligator clips. Looked pretty cool but I wasn't going to buy it at the rippoff store, I mean truck stop.

I do have verizon cell, home phone & internet service right now. So is the Verizon air card the one where you pay $60 per month? Maybe I could get rid of the home internet service since it won't be used. (No one would be there to use it) That could lower some cost.

You can get most any appliance, except microwave, in a 12 volt model. I had a well-equipped OTR truck with cooler, "oven", coffee maker, TV/VCR, vacuum cleaner all running on 12 volts. They used the cig lighter outlet in the truck.
Verizon, Sprint, and Virgin Mobile have wireless mobile broadband internet. Virgin doesn't require a 2 year contract or monthly fees. It's pre-paid but it's probably mean for people that have another regular internet connection and sometimes need a portable connection but don't want a monthly fee every month for the few times they need internet on the go. -
or you could tether your cell phone to the laptop if you know how to make a few edits in the software... these sites will help:
