I think the best company I ever worked for was Fedex Ground. It was unfortunate that I was employed under a contractor known as Edan Farms Inc.. In case you don't know FedEx Ground is completely O/O down to the bread trucks that do the home deliveries. FedEx treated us with respect, tried to get us out on time every time, most of their runs had great miles. I was on what they called a "Whiled Truck" which meant they could send me anywhere. I usually went from Columbus, Oh. To Portland Or.The back haul was either straight back to Columbus or to Kansas City then Columbus. Once in a while if there wasn't any freight coming out of Portland back two either of those terminals they would send us to Rialto CA. with to empties, and we would get paid the extra 1000 miles. It was to bad the contractor starting messing with the pay changed the pay scale 5 times in 6 months. In the downward direction every time. I loved Fedex and would go back to work for them under an ethical contractor.

FedEx Ground was basically started when they purchased RPS some years ago. RPS was the package delivery company that was started by former UPS management types to compete, and get the share of the package delivery system, and they had o/o's who had the "bread trucks" as you call them, and i worked for RPS as a "temp" driver. whenever an o/o was out sick or whatever, i would do his route. or, i would work for RPS doing trailer work, some days, i'd do both jobs.............the o/o's would pay me directly when i drove their trucks. RPS would pay me when i drove their trucks.
a whopping $75.00 per day (for RPS) and all the B.S. i could take. sometimes, the o/o's would pay me no more than the $75.00 per day also, but some o/o's would pay me slighty more.
it was a great day when the news came down that Federal Express bought out RPS, unfortunatly, i had long since left the nitwits and moronic management of RPS to ever sign on with FedEx Ground........ -
my husband is at orientation for fed ex ground right now. This is nice to read since his last trucking job was not such a good experience.

I am still waiting on approval to drive for FedEx Ground as a team line-haul driver fresh out of school. Could anyone tell me why it is taking so long for them to approve me? It's been over two weeks since I have submitted all info and drug screen. Been out of school now for 2 weeks and afraid I will forget my shifting skills and what not. shamusmct2007

Just as a side note, I found a new contractor, and will be driving Line-haul myself in a few weeks. I am waiting for my Dr. to sign off on the DOT Physical. I'm on 2 meds that could make me sleepy. The funny thing is I have been on the same meds for 3 or 4 yrs, and had 2 other physicls without a problem. I guess the Dr. is just covering his behind.
I hope things work out for you,

Well everyone I am happy to say that I am once again working for FedEx, under a new contractor. Things are better, because I'm not working under Edan Farms. Some things have changed since I last worked for them. They now have a mail delivery system call Smart Post. Those loads are more a PIA than anything else, but they can help keep you moving. I'm happy here , and hope I can retire from here in 20 or so years.
Blessed Be

I inquired about a diving position in Toledo Ohio for a contractor. Three trips form Toledo Ohio to Detroit area drop hook doubles at each end paid 110 a day. five 12 to 14 hour days and I can bring home $450 a week for 60 hours. works out too about $6.50 an hour

Thats just a bad contractor, they do have ones that pay well and treat you right. I have been there five years and two contractors. The only reason I left the first one was I was on a team run with my husband and they lost the run, they paid us very well, he went some where else and I went to another contactor who I have been with for three years. I work 7 hrs a day 5 days a week and make almost 40,000 a year, paid vacation, hoilday pay, christmas bonus and I have a bid run. It all depends on the contractor.
