1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Right now a lot of companies that normally take new drivers are on hold and only taking recent OTR, but will keep looking for you. Your time from the past will not count.

Is turning wrenches on aircraft NOT a better job than turning numbers on an odometer??

Some might think so, but I have always really enjoyed driving OTR. Burnout is setting in with aviation and also, just like everything else, aviation is pretty much in the dumpster right now.

    Hey Hawker,
I don't see your "switch" in jobs a problem, as others do. Life is about change, and we aren't expected to stay in one job our whole life. I think your experience is worth something, and believe a company out there will pick you up, possibly with doing a 2-4 week trainer run. No big deal. Sounds like you are ready to get back on the road, so go for it.
We had to put our truck driving on the back burner for awhile as well. My husband leaves for Afghanistan next year, and has decided to retire Army, so we will be hitting the road again after an extended period of time off. But we do plan on driving for several more years afterwards.
Best wishes to you, and I know you will find a driving job. Hang in there.

Sounds like a common story nowadays. I dropped out of trucking to pursue my aviation dream, and between the economy and the recent P.R. problems being pushed on General Aviation, the market for guys like me kinda sucks right now.

I have about 13 years of OTR experience, including a couple years' worth of training new drivers and a year as a safety instructor. Unfortunately, none of this is within the last three years, and I'm kinda hamstrung by it.

In the meantime, I can sit at the truck stop and watch dozens of guys fumble their way through the parking lot... but they gots der CDL and a new sheet of paper dat sez dey be qualler-fied.

    *sigh*

    #### and I thought nobody was watching, Actually don't give up, It took me 4 months to find the job I wanted ( mostly local or shorthaul) after getting my cdl back after 26 years off the road, I had had a job in car dealership's and last New Years Eve, they said"your position has been eliminated" so I got the Unemployment office thru WIA to pay for cdl school, took a few strings and help from others but I am working steady and loving every bit of it, this week was 1400 miles and over 50 hrs(Paid on both)
