practical,vs.household movers

Yes I heard many times pending how you plan your trip you can go less miles than paid. Not all the time but some times you can.

 

Nifty, aint it, I just hope the company does not get wind of it and change back...

 

Maybe you can answer this, I to work for Roehl and follow the opt-stop as I am told, and I am always driving more miles than paid for. I was considering purchasing a gps unit and following my own route. I have asked this question many times to my dispatcher, and he can not answer this, nor alot of other questions that I ask. He also qual-commed me on friday telling me to get to a fax machine so he could fax me company policies, because I had a dispatcher the week before that had me running all of the time, and home on friday evening, and I told my dispatcher that I would appreciate if he do the same and he pretty much lost it, and then they wonder why they are losing drivers such as myself, that are professional, 100% safe, get Roehl out of jams with customers, I am always first in line to get unloaded, amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Unfortunately no matter how a Driver gets paid using "per mile" pay, the only way to get paid actual odometer miles is if a carrier pays by odometer (not Hubometer). Just make sure odometer is accuate. With this said, I know of no carrier that pays by the odometer, only a few that pay by the hubometer.

All mileage pay software programs out there use basically the same routing sequence; zip code to zip code. What's bad about this is that these zips cover the whole area for that zip, not to the actual street address that you need to go to. So yes, you will drive more than you will get paid, unfortunately.

HHG is the worst pay software to use cause over a years period of driving, expect to loose on average 8% pay. Next comes PC Miler short, expect to loose on average 6% per year. And for PC Miler practical, expect to loose 3% per year. Also with PC Miler software, if you do a lot of Southeast running, it is in line with HHG paid miles. I don't know why but this is what other Drivers have told me.

Using the above, here is a hypothetical setup using 100,000 paid miles:

HHG; 108,000 actual miles driven

PC Miler short; 106,000 actual miles driven

PC Miler practical; 103,000 actual miles driven

household miles are a joke. you lose so much money on it. i have ran on both. i would lose $100 - $300 everyweek on household.

Garland Gehrke Trucking is a great company in many respects and I enjoy working here! My one COMPLAINT, however is the continued use of Household Movers Guide Miles as opposed to practical miles. The company holds that this is an acceptable and widely used practice... What it means for drivers... You work multiple hours weekly that you do not get paid for... For myself, it's been about 3-4 hours in a 55 + hour work week constantly every week that GG refuses to add to my paycheck (or about 150-200 mi). My biggest struggle working here is attempting weekly to ignore the constant thought that each trip I take during the week I'm being cheated... There are a number of routes (routing is very specific with GG) where a driver is not paid for 1 hour each direction. ThoughGarland Gehrke management call this standard practice, it is an unfair practice that fails to recognize the value of the companies most important employees, the drivers. If my calculations are correct, I personally am refused pay for appr. 8,500 miles annually or $3000.
