    Some people will never understand. The lack of business & industry education within our industry is incredible, but it is a large part of why mega brokers & carriers have become successful and the smaller outfits are not successful.

    It all comes down to two things;
    1.) Free market rates, what we have now, "Ain't Capitalism Great!"
    2.) Government Regulation, like it was before, say, 1970's before Deregulation...(can't remember the date) where you had Yellow Freight and Roadway and others and the labor force was highly Unionized. Very stable, predictable market environment.
    Getting Independent Authority was almost impossible, unbelievably expensive, like trying to buy a liquor license (which is still a heavily regulated "industry" today)
    Along came De-Regulation in the Trucking Industry,..... Anybody can run a truck and rates fell through the floor.
    Final/big winner??? SHIPPERS
    I'm not going to side-up one way or the other. JUST FACT!
    Same with the airlines. ...........
    Regulation Time....flying was actually fun, COMFORTABLE and civilized..stable and predictable.
    Heavily Unionized work force.
    De-Regulation: Flying today...
    Which was better??? Final winner? YOU DECIDE.............

    simple decisions.

    1.run at a loss and subsidize shippers out of your pocket.

    2.park and suffer the consequences of your unique financial position.

    I had a client today who wanted a drop deck from Sourhern California to Michigan and told me the other brokers were coming in at $1.20 a mile after I submitted my offer. I couldn't keep a straight voice offering those kind of rates to a carrier.

    Wow! I'm new to this and still won't try to play with those games. I'd rather work on marketing than try to break trucker's balls down to a price where I can make $50 and they can just afford to make it home.
