Chassis Cab and non-CDL

    As long as the truck and the trailer GVWR add up to less than 26,000 you do not need a CDL

    That is the GVWR that the data plate says, not what it actually weighs.

    You need a bed on it.

    If you want to go over 65 feet total length then you need to remove the bed, and that changes he rules.

    I agree this answer is not correct.
    Thanks for this clarification. The subtlety between sleeping as a team in an operating truck (which I can understand DOT rules for berthing) vs logging off and not operating is important.

    I agree 100%. So, as far as you know, being chassis cab don't matter spit as long as the GVWR (and/or actual weight when weighed) of both truck and trailer is under 26k?

    I'm not sure about that, because I run a bed, and the guys I know that take the bed off run over 65 feet and were already CDL drivers.

    I'm sure I read somewhere that taking the bed off makes it a truck tractor, but I don't know for sure that triggers CDL. I don't think so.
