Kind of bummed out. My application was denied by Stevens. I had been pre-approved about 4 months ago and dragged my feet and was told by a Stevens recruiter to re-submit my application. Not sure what happened, but was told I was denied. No problems with my driving or criminal records. All I can think of is that they are beginning to look more closely at credit reports. One place on their website says that they don't check credit but if you notice the disclaimer that you sign after filling out the app., it says that they have the right to check your consumer reports, if you sign on the dotted line. Stevens was on the top of my list due to their training program, and what seems to be a fair amount of happy drivers, but now may have to look elsewhere.

Hey t land, i dont think they denied u bc of ur credit. Trust me my credit is poop. And a lot of guys in my class have crappy credit too. They just give us a higher interest rate. Prolly was bc u dragged ur feet. Idk. That would be my guess. U should of asked em why.
-
Yea big, I did ask why a couple of times, but couldn't get a response. Maybe it is because I dragged my feet, but I did tell them when I applied before that it might take longer than the 60 days that they keep your app. approved before I could start, and they told me that that was alright, and that I would just have to re-submit an app. when I was ready. I probably should not have applied till I had everything taken care of at home (had to take care of closing my small business here in Ma. and it took longer than expected to get everything wrapped up). I just wish they would give me a definitive reason whey they denied me so I wouldn't keep second guessing it.
Anyway Big, it sounds like things are going really good for you at Stevens! Keep up the good work! 2 more weeks till you get your CDL, right? Good luck! -
Is the required time out the same no matter where you live? And how are they on the idle?
-
Was accepted to start school on the 28th. Does anyone know if you stay gone the whole 8 wks of training, or do you get to go home after the first 5wks. and come back for the last three weeks.
-
Everything is goin well so far. Taking my last two tests tomm at dps. Got to pass pretrip and combonation. Then im done with my tests and can focus on driving. Required time out is the same no matter were u live. Luckily i was told by some drivrs today that its very easy to get a load to ohio. So ill be able to get home regually if i want. But i want to stay out two or so months at a time. Stevens has a no idle policy. Thats why most of the fleet has apu units in them. They give u the opiton to go home for five days after ur first trip out with the trainer, but word of advice dont, get ur training in then maybe go home. Makes it a lot easier. Thats what we was told.
-
The answer to your question is yes, you can go home after your initial training. You get one day for every week you're out. You can take 5 days after your 5 weeks training. Some drivers do, many do not. Totally your call. Some guys have a wife and kids and need to get some hometime in, and they understand that. If you can wait, it's great to get all of your training done. They also try, to the extent they can, to get you a trainer that lives in the same general area as you. That way, if the trainer needs to go home or takes home time, you can too. But let's say he lives 50 miles from you and goes home....you will have to figure out a way to get home on your own dime, the company isn't going to pay for it.
-
Hey boog, say the trainer goes home on home time, what do i do then, just hook up with another trainer or what.
-
Well fellas off to bed, wish me luck on my two remaining tests. Hope i pass em. Ill keep u guys posted tomm. Night guys, god bless.

Were your trainer goes you go. My hubby sat in a rest area for two days in Florida when his trainer went home.
