So , do you think if a broker gives a load to some trucker at an agreed rate it is ethical for the trucker to then bypass the broker and go load directly at the consignor?

I haven’t read anything in this Thread beyond your last post-
You want regulations to solve problems very few people have: that’s special interests controlling industry. In 10 years I have had zero of those circumstances ever occur; what’s more I know a lot of other carriers that have never had any of those issues either.
I am not saying those things don’t happen, however they don’t happen often and when the whole story comes out it’s never a surprise that it did happen. Just saying. “ I can’t believe my insurance doubled in the first few months! I only had one dui :0 “
additionally: not here to point fingers, but telling me you did something for 3 months over 20 years ago as if that makes you knowledgeable on a subject is a great way to convince anyone you don’t know anything about the topic.
20+ years ago I was a 13 year old scamming lunch money. Hardly makes me an expert on teen business other than; even then, I was using the technique you should have been using at your brokerage: buy low sell high.
I’m really not interested in reading the next several pages to catch up to this part in this thread; in the grand scheme of things a lot of people just need to step their game up. If they don’t like dealing with brokers and feel that they’re being ripped off, there are so many avenues around that it doesn’t even make sense to have a thread on here about getting scammed. Just people complaining to complain. If they wanted to solve a problem it would not be hard at all to do just that. But what they want is to complain. Successful people don’t set around n cry about everybody else all the time. -
Like I said way back in 1st or 2nd post, sometimes, yeah it's right, if the shipper is mad at me over a flat out lie from a broker. I'll clear the air with shipper, it's worked in my favor both times..
Do I do it on a daily basis.? No, twice in 6 years..
I don't make a habit of it, nor have I burnt any bridge..
If I'm not happy with a rate, I find something else. I'm not into stealing broker customers, but don't use me as some kind of shield, blaming me, because as the broker you can't rate where you want it so you lie & say he won't move it for less than X amount..Midwest Trucker, Lite bug and clausland Thank this. -
@Ruthless the issue with not reading means not Being informed, not only did I do it years I go I also did it again recently as well.
You might not have experienced double brokering or you might have but did not know, but I can guarantee that I see a minimum of 15 loads a day posted on Dat that’s double brokered, that’s one city and one firm, I know of 5 firms that are heavily into double brokering and how many cities are there?
do the math and you will see hundreds if not thousands of loads a day being double brokered based on what’s on the boards, now take into account what’s not on the boards, and it becomes terrifying.
Let’s just say you don’t need a degree to be a broker.
So read up before you speak up. Might learn something. -
Just curious, how did you learn what the broker did? Shipper disclose it when you loaded?singlescrewshaker and Deere hunter Thank this. -

Few years ago a hurricane gave the FL Keys a good beating. There is never much coming out of there, so you always need some deadhead money coming out anyhow. Called on a brokered load going in..
I offered a fair rate considering the circumstances. Broker went back & fourth with customer for several hours before he finally got me what I needed. By this time the shipper now had to stay open an extra hour so I could load. (I refuse to head toward a load without a signed rate con, as should everyone.)
I arrived to load & see the guy watching me as I pull in, & can tell right off he looks pissy. Figured he's just mad he's going home an hour late. Break out my ramps, chains, boomers & ask which bobcat is going down..
Me-you could have just left the keys, & bol in the mailbox & went home, I load these all the time..
Guy-It ain't the hour, y'all cutting into my dang commission! Never imagine a FL run would cost me this.!
Me-Welp, there ain't nothing coming out, I need to make my rate both ways..
Guy-Last I checked, trucks ain't running for $10 a mile here.!
Me- Mine certainly isn't, but I'd like too.!
Guy-Well, I just shelled out 4 grand for a 400 mile run!! The broker said y'all wouldn't run down there for a penny less.. Now I know why he said not to talk $ with you. Your boss is screwing you too!!
I told him the rules, we ain't supposed to talk $. But I had already heard him say he paid $4k. I easily put together the broker lied to him about "my boss lol", & how we were gouging him because of the hurricane..
Tell him I am the boss, 1 man outfit. You were lied too. He shows me his invoice on tablet, I showed my rate con. He's pissed, but he kept quiet & calls me now when he got something that fits my outfit. It isn't often, but few times a year..
Morality, ethically wrong.? In this case I don't feel it is. I was lied about, & the salesman loss a good chunk of his comission. Had he not brought up what he had to pay, & how my "boss" was cheating me out of $ too, I wouldn't of said what I was getting paid. Was just another load to me..
If anyone was in the wrong here, it was the broker. Maybe even a case of price gouging..? IDK. $2800 was my take. Is that worth $1200 to get a phone call, & post on the board..?Last edited: Apr 27, 2020
