About 1956. IRS letter to come see them. Was driving for $75.00 a week and ALL expenses paid. 20 yr old, single, running flatbed bale cotton to SC, NC and VA. If in on weekend, hotel room in small town was $4.50 a night. We always got a check for $75 and another for the total of our expenses.
Met the agent as directed. He outlined his case and gave me the amount. Then took off with questions.
Do you have a bank account-No, do you own any property-No, what do you have? Well, a large leather AWOL bag, .32 Colt automatic, 35 mm camera, three or four work clothes changes.
Then how do you intend to arrange to pay this balance? The amount was something less than $200.
I said: "Well in cash; right now. if you can give me a receipt". Face flushed and he grumbles:
Why didn't you say so? Answered with "You did not ask about money". Clean from 51 till then.
What if it Snows?

Rocks, Ask the man who is going to paint the car, describe it to him and ask where to get it.
In case he can't tell you, I think I would reconsider him painting it.tommymonza, LtlAnonymous, 650cat425 and 3 others Thank this. -

Fmcsa is now only a starting point. Carriers are free to impose further requirements on drivers.
Insurers are free to impose further requirements on carriers.
Juries are free to impose insane judgements against carriers and their insurance.
I have little doubt that Landstar would have me providing a sample within two hours of their being notified if I was involved in a collision.
They'd work out the fault factor later.LtlAnonymous, 650cat425, WesternPlains and 2 others Thank this. -
If we were thinking remote trucks, here is a virtual racing competition in NASCAR, one driver was taken out of the race to dead last when his little girl remoted his displays OFF because daddy is too busy to get up and go "PLay go kart outside"

Just reminds me. You're considering a new truck. I'd definitely consider a 'winter kit' in it. I'll never forget spending the great polar vortex of 2019 in Chicago, in a Peterbilt with one. Truck came though like a champ. Did have to high idle her. Also the PS fuel treatment. Had other trucks dropping like flies around me.
Also... Dave... You might hesitate to buy anything right now. This is not the time. Economy could get really bad.
Only thing worth buying now is stocks. At a low. Was lusting the other day when oil crashed. Would have loved to dabble with a little money in futures on that day.LtlAnonymous and 650cat425 Thank this. -
Noticed last night was to be a low of 40 here. Considered doing more painting on my front porch. But mowed the back lawn. For it's good. So it doesn't get too high when the lawn guy comes. Not good to hack it way down like that.
Took me a while to get that mowed. (my injury...legs) Once I got it done. Didn't have a whole lot left to paint the porch. That and I found a great Jamaican restaurant. Wanted to sleep after that meal.dwells40, LtlAnonymous, 650cat425 and 2 others Thank this.
