I was supposed to start my orientation /training with Schneider on Tuesday next week (today is Thursday). All systems were 'go' until yesterday when they called and said they have put a 'temporary hold' on all new driver training at their Atlanta location. They told me they'll call me back when things open back up, maybe in a month or so. I'm afraid my CDL might go stale by then (graduated Feb 13) ... Twice I've been delayed for various reasons or I would have been working from mid-March ... I've called and put in a few more applications but nothing seems to be happening. Could it be that I live in a 'slow freight' area? What do you think should be my best course of action? Wait for Schneider to open back up, try another, even if that is C.R. England (OMG)? The best thing about Schneider was that the training was to-the-point ... they don't put you on 'team' driving masquerading as 'training' ...
No New Trainees? Till when?

You should be asking your recruiter these questions.
Times are funky right now for everyone and Atlanta is not a 'slow' freight market.
I would not, nor do I think anyone else, would reccomend CRE.
Get in touch with your recruiter and just ask.

It’s slow! Companies are doing anything they can to keep drivers rolling. Up until two weeks ago I was still getting 2900-3300 weekly, these past two weeks? 1400 and 1300. Barely enough to be worth being out here. I’m going to stick it out in hopes that things pick back up but I won’t live on a truck for no $440 a week take-home. I stay out 2 months at a time. Maybe find something to stay busy until things pick back up

Covid continues to do damage thats part of it. (The other part is 30 million filers expected today in report on wallstreet for this week.)
Trucker T says it best, a training in a smaller company of 200 with a simulator even, to sit and drive, shift whatever engine or transmission being chosen is a VALUABLE and expensive tool.
You are not to be in a hurry, trucking is a journey. Not a 9 to 5 fast food job to be hurry up and get money. It takes a lifetime for some to be good at it. IF they get that far in this industry.
If you are running medicines for McKesson in Memphis for example as a solo or team, you are going to be SICK of miles each week. TIRED of it too, sleep all weekend rather than worry about the 1000 dollars in your deposit thursday. You will get to it sometime monday when you are rested and doing it again.
Covid is historical in our History here and world wide. Those of us alive today must roll with the changes imposed and sometimes closures or delays that seem excessive. Just do your best and be careful whatever you do. Its very bad out here right now. However there is trucking to be done. Just need to hang in there.
CDL's never get stale. Once you possess one or have it in grandfathering you can always get it back really easily PROVIDED all the usual crime record vs FMCSA disqual list and your driving record is good for it.Liahos Thanks this. -
2008 recession Schneider shut down all of their training schools and were only hiring experienced drivers in very limited areas. How long this lasts depends on the economy. They will pick up hiring when they feel the freight will be there.

Do you live in Atlanta?
Refrigerated companies are hiring.
Let us know where you're located.Mooseontheloose Thanks this. -
If you are out of Atlanta and you were going with Schneider just a few driveways down the street on International park drive SE there is Transport America. I would give them a try , they were a cool company when I worked for them they are right behind the Pilot there off boulder crest rd. Yes most every where is slow right now.
