Hi everyone!!

Hey guys,

Long time reader here, finally participating in the forum after 3 years of lurking. Just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of the drivers out there making life possible for the rest of us right now. Having spent a year over the road with US Xpress back in 2016, I have a small idea of the sacrifice you guys are making. It's a shame that it takes a pandemic for us four-wheeled individuals to recognize that.

A little about myself:

I'm a 33 year old guy who works for the NYS DOT as a plow driver by winter, grunt worker by summer. I fell into the job after being fired from US Xpress for a rear-ender on the Austin section of I-35 North. It was minor (less than $1,000 in assessed damages), but a "following too close" ticket can make a driver with a spotless record uninsurable. Following distance REALLY matters.

Although I've switched jobs, driving over the road was the only type of work I've ever really felt engaged by, despite its challenges. I'm considering giving OTR driving a second go, which is a big reason why I've revisited this forum.

In my spare time, I like to produce (unfinished) music, write computer programs and play American Truck Simulator while reminiscing. Watching YouTube videos is another vice of mine. If you have some time, I recommend checking out "Happiness By The Mile." She's a driver who makes some great YouTube content.
