Talbert, Fontaine and trail king all use T1 for main beams and outside rails. XL uses T1 for main beams and 80,000 psi for outer rails, but will do T1 if that’s what you want. Just about all the major manufacturers do now.

T1 may not have been commonly used 30 years ago. Idk about that, but it’s common now.

Just for curiosity sake I dug out the bill of lading. The beams i delivered were A992 steel. Which googling appears to show is the preferred steel for wide flange beams, and has a minimum tensile yield strength of 50 ksi. I can't find the specs for flanged beams made from t1, only plate of varying thickness.

T1 only comes in plate, as far as I know. Every decent trailer manufacturer fabricates their beams out of plate. They don’t use mill formed beams.

I've heard they make NGB now, but all the ones I've seen are cookie cutters. I get enough crap for when I have to drop a machine on asphalt in subdivisions and in town, I'm sure that the nice square patches would go over wonderfully.

Style of neck aside, I've never been impressed by any Witzco I've seen, nor have I been first hand to any horror stories. It's crossed my mind as cheap as they go sometimes, if I could find one with a short enough well, to pick it up for a beater lowboy that would be loaded exclusively over the side. Weld the neck up solid, and maybe even build a correct me if I'm wrong, but an upside down power tower? Have the trailers fifth wheel plate able to raise up and down off the wet kit of the truck for when I need to go into 4x4 lift kit mode. I still would rather find an old Peerless, General, or other west coast style logger lowboy from the 60's or 70's for this duty though. Not many Witzco's out there with a 16-18 foot well!

if you buy a 35ton and load 50-55k excavators on it your fine you buy a tri axle 40ton and treat it like a 50ton trailer and it goes down hill fast
