i do not necessarily endorse gun ownership among civilians myself, but we are afforded this through our constitution, and i have 3 right now myself, started buying, training with them since late February, long before this pandemic started.
as far as strict gun laws, i support those laws which keep guns out of the hands of felons, or mentality deficient people. normal and reasonable, and sane people ought to have what ever they want, learn how to safely use them, clean them, store them away.
i was at my local gun range weeks ago, when this crap was hitting the fan. people were ticked off there was a 7 day waiting period for the gun transfer to actually take place, (now under the governors rules under this pandemic, it "can be up to 30 days"), you wanna hear the anti-gun people scream they wanted thier guns now? when asked, "did you vote for gun control"? when they answered, yeah", they were told, "you got your gun control"
why, so you and the family can be at home, watching tv, or in bed, and have some one break in, and come after you, the wife or your kids with maybe a hand gun, crow bar, machete, and kill you?
a parents first duty is to PROTECT the family at all costs, including up to losing your life, to save thiers.
that'll be the day i do nothing, i'll point and shoot, and drop the MOFO's.
that's what my governor had done, upped the standard waiting period form 7 to "up to" 30 days. BUT, people are still ordering hand guns, but now, there is no stock to be found, and the gun stores (here) have empty show cases.
if this were a major snow storm (blizzard) and we were locked in for 1 to 2 weeks, we'd all be stir crazy. if it was the dog days of summer, with weeks long, HOT, MUGGY (humid) weather we'd all still be stir crazy.....makes no difference right now
that false sense of security is from non-practicing, and non-education in the safe handling of ANY type of fire arm(s) whether they be hand gun, rifle, shotgun, even a slingshot, and bow and arrow, or cross bow.
truth be known, law enforcement MUST qualify in the beginning, and during the year, and many LEO's NEVER even pull out thier sidearms.
no, the 2nd amendment will never be over-turned, we will not allow it, I WILL NOT ALLOW IT, and i never had a gun, touched a gun, shot a gun until this past February, at the age of over 70..>!!
BUT, I LIKE the sport of shooting, i like the practice i am getting weekly, and i keep all 3 of my handguns so darned clean, i can eat off them.
as mine are...well mine.... i do not force anyone to go out and buy a gun, or train for one, it is after all a FREE America.
i hope that i did not give you any "heat", but i too have MY opinions regarding hand guns, or any weapons a person wants, AS LONG AS that person GETS proper training in the SAFE handling, practice, PROPER cleaning procedures, PROPER SAFE storage, and the mental stability and fortitude to protect his life, his family and his home in the event of an illegal intrusion, in one's "safe haven"
as long as there will be people, there WILL BE VIOLENT people that will at a moments notice, kill you or your family, and not even think twice about it.
we should all be prepared to take THAT persons life if need be, and feel good about it.

Winnipeg has seen a huge rise in homemade firearms this last year. Some are so precision made that they're suspecting its a machinist producing them:

Certain liberties can be suspended during a national emergency.
Now if any of those boneheads end up testing positive for COVID-19 like those “Spring Breakers” did in Florida that’ll be karma coming full circle. -
No heat... I respect the hell out of you. I dont expect people to see things as I do. It's fine. We can have civilized discussions. I will always do that with you because you always have some good points, as you did in your reply, and they do make sense. I do agree under the current climate of the law that felons and mentally I'll people should not have access. The scary part for me is knowing who is calculated and who isn't. Not so much the weapon itself. People have become so unpredictable and irrational, almost to the point of babyish at times, especially when life doesn't go their way. Not knowing someone's temperament is probably the scarier part for me....maybe that's closer to the opinion I would like to project. Nonetheless, you said some good stuff there and i see what you're saying.buddyd157 Thanks this.

before this pandemic hit us, i never gave any thoughts to civil unrest, or rioting.
i was just an older retired family man, wanting a new sport/hobby for my age, and i got into it, and i like it. (really wished i had gotten into this decades ago)
since then, we have seen (on the news) all across the country, where police have gotten ill, and other first responders. this is the time the thugs can try to take control, and we cannot allow that to happen. not that i am any sort of hero or superman, far from it. but if things get to dire straits, we would need a civilian force (of sorts), sure all 50 U.S. States have the National Guard, but they need time to mobilize, and even they are not immune to sickness during this time.
just like back during the American revolution where the civilians were known as "minute men", pretty much being ready in a minute, to defend the people.
will things ever get that bad that we need all able bodied civilians to "bear arms"?
i don't know, i don't think so. most likely not.
but many will be up and ready to defend whomever we have to, family first, neighbors, and as i mentioned, even if it means, i lose my life. as i recall something i had seen/heard in several movies, "i will not go down, with out a fight". (musta been some John Wayne movie..lol)
i think that then, those who are against guns and want more controls, might actually be grateful, many others like us, have them. no sense in dying, with out a fight for survival first.
well anyway's, just some added thoughts.bryan21384 and InTooDeep Thank this. -
I hear you...I cant imagine a full blown thug takeover. I would like to think that the number of good citizens still out weigh the clowns of the world, even in tough times. I've never too much felt threatened by the bad guys of the world. Things are always liable to happen. I always figured if I laid low, tried to be kind to folks, and kept myself aware of my surroundings and company I'd be find. Man I used to keep some bad company, hang out in the wrong parts of places, making less than stellar choices, at home and on the road. After all these years of wising up, i learned a lot. I always try to foresee a situation but I must admit, firearm or not, I wouldn't have a clue as to what to do in a tough situation. If I had a firearm, I'd like to think I'd be able to pull the trigger easily to defend myself, but knowing the man ice become, I dont know if I could stay calculated enough to do so in those types of situations. So many thoughts

He almost drowned on the spot. Knocked his head underwater. His next inhale would have filled his lungs with water and killed him.
