Moving a truck tractor

Call a drive away service if it’s a runner these companies can be pretty full service permits temp tags all that for a healthy fee obviously nothing is free the local truck dealers probably have a company they use if you ask they might share it with you if not Roadrunner towing in Ontario Oregon

 

A lowboy may be easier and safer, certainly not cheaper. I know my dad has hauled an old fld 120 on a stepdeck. I know a guy who hauled an old Superliner down to Dallas on a gooseneck behind a pickup, just had to take the stacks off to stay under 13,6.
It all depends what it is for a truck, a nice stand up sleeper will require a lowboy, pretty much anything else should be able to go on a stepdeck.

 

l have see a small pickup with a towbar with a king pin. Hook to the 5th wheel transport, then unhook after delivery and drive on to the next one

 

450 miles? If it's road worthy and has insurance it might be easiest/cheapest to just drive it and get a bus/plane ticket back home.

Similar for buying one (assuming you have a CDL). "Too far" isn't really an issue besides getting to the truck. At least in the US anyway, just stick "not for hire" signs on the doors, get temp insurance, and you're good to drive it back home (or to a company you're leasing on to).

 

The towbar with kingpin was mounted on the front of the small pickup that l saw. l suppose you could mount one on an automobile depending the type of frame of your vehicle. It did look strange because of the length of the towbar and the curved shape to clear the frame rails of the tractor and still reach the 5th wheel plate.
l would move the truck for $200 plus bus ticket to Payette ldaho from Salem and bus ticket back to Salem from Grants Pass or pay me the additional amount for the bus tickets.

 

1200 to 1500 on a step deck, you can be 14’ tall legal.
Ask to borrow a dock at local tractor dealer, much safer than ramps.

 

Or pull it forwards, pull an axle shaft out, cover it with a piece of plywood, bolted onto hub. Or pull the driveshaft.
