I forgot where I read it, but at some point during WW 2, I remember reading that the Japanese briefly considered attacking the U.S. with infantry via the left coast; however, one of their brighter bulbs pointed out the fact that unlike their citizens most Americans were well armed and would defend their homeland, so that idea was shelved. I guess they figured bombing Pearl Harbor was a better idea...Rubber duck kw and AModelCat Thank this. -

The 2nd Amendment was enacted so we could defend ourselves against our own government, but I'm sure you knew that.clausland and Rubber duck kw Thank this.

It wasn't the threat of an armed citizenry that made Japan decide not in invade the lower 48 (they did land in the Aleutians). It was logistics. Japan did not have enough sea freight capacity to supply both the Port Moresby invaision AND the Guadalcanal defense. Heck, one of the reasons MacArthur held out as long as he did was how long it took Japan to land its troops.Snailexpress Thanks this.

I believe a little history lesson is due here. Many large well organized armies, equipped with the latest technology have attempted to conquer and control a given country or area, only to be defeated by "individuals", using very effective guerrilla tactics. Our experiences in the Middle East showed this.
The US was defeated in Vietnam this way, the Russians were run out of Afghanistan, the list goes on and on throughout history. Indeed, the reason the Japanese stopped at Pearl Harbor is because the Japanese Army hierarchy were convinced that it would be futile to attack the US mainland, knowing that almost every household on the west coast had a weapon of some sort.
The Kent State University shootings in 1970 illustrate clearly that the National Guard will never again use live ammunition against US citizens, no matter what the reason. My son has been in the Army reserves for 20 years, this sort of thing gets discussed in the barracks from time to time. No one he knows would shoot either.clausland, PoleCrusher and Rubber duck kw Thank this. -
Ever hear of that little thing called the freedom of religion? Fining people for going to church is a direct violation of that, used to be punishable by a necktie party or a lead brain implant.

That is correct; however, it is in addition to what I had mentioned though.
Now, take England as another example. Churchill begged for the U.S. to send over civilian small arms to defend their country from what they deemed an imminent Nazi invasion. Why? because the country was pretty much devoid of weaponry, the citizens had none. Have they learned from that though, no, the citizenry still doesn't any arms.
By the way, the civilian U.S. weapons that were "donated" to England never made their way back to the U.S.; they were destroyed.....PoleCrusher and Rubber duck kw Thank this. -
