Seriously?! That’s far fetched dude. I have never heard of such a high rate of cam “going out” as you mentioned in a motor failure. But for some reason you have every other one as you mention. That is nonsense in my opinion. Check the clearance if you want and run the overhead if it’s out

Took the belt off today and it still makes the same noise. I found another similar thread that had your input, looks like I'll be replacing the damper.
