The Suzuki S40 l suggested earlier because it has forward controls like most cruisers. Stay away from anything with rearset foot controls (IMHO) if you intend to ride in the laid back cruiser position.

 

If l remember correctly, it does have a tail that swings like a pendulum. It needs some assembly when you take it out of the box.

 

Get something much smaller and cheaper and ride it this year.....I'm thinking Honda 350.
Ride it around, crash a couple of times, and get your big bike next year.
Nothing more embarrassing than rolling in on a bagger and dumping it in the parking lot because you don't know how to ride.
And its not as easy as it looks.

10-4. That's the best way to go. My advice is to figure out what style of bike you want and what type of riding you want to do. I've had everything from crotch rockets to hardtail chopper with a 300mm rear tire to a Harley bagger.

One of my favorite motorcycles is the Victory line made by Polaris. They are very reliable, cheap and fun to ride. You could pick up something like a Vegas and never say "I've outgrown this". I mention them because you said you like the Honda Rebel, so I'll assume you're looking at cruiser style bikes. Victorys are everything a Honda is, plus made in the USA and better looking.

 

Careful there's "killer hornets" from Asia over here now.

l sold my FLH Shovelhead in 1999 and bought a new Victory. Rode it 12 years. Better everything over HD. l won't buy a new Indian because polaris might decide to quit manufacturing them as they did with Victory because some bean counter didn't think there were enough sales.
