You will want to wait longer than that. Your hair can store data on whatever you had inside your system for months and months. I don't know the exact numbers but for me to pass hair I would wait a minimum of one year. And have some trims along the way. I am in that waiting period right now about 6 months in. Unfortuantely two other medicines will be a problem at some point. We are working on it.

What you want to research is half life of drugs. And then learn how your body stores the medicine. and how long. Then go from there.

You also want to do some reading on how the DOT Drugs are done. Usually from the forums used by drug testers online. I wont link them here because its too close to drug abusers forums and extremely moderated. But makes for eyeopening reading and learning.

Moose here among us is the intellectual heavy weight. He knows his ####. so he will be along when he has a better day and gets to it.

Im not allowed to make noise and carry on about this subject. However you asked questions and I tried to help answer them clean. Personally I grew up in a home that had a pot smoker downstairs when he was 18. Which made for a interesting childhood.

That particular person has been for whatever reason insitutionalized in our penal system. Its unfortunate, he was good to us where possible. Probably because we were kids and to be protected more or less from the changing culture in those days. There was alot of changes along the way.

Pot is not my vice however its more of a trained drinker while driving the old iron before the then new CDLA laws prior to the early 90's so... there were changes even then.

Im finished here unless you had more questions. But Moose as I stated is really good at this.

Thanks @x1Heavy I really do appreciate you answering my questions. I wasn't trying to disagree with anything you said or be argumentative, so I apologize if my additional comments came off that way. I'll keep an eye out for Moose in case he see's this. Thank you again!

You did good. Im the one with the issues LOL. If which there are many. HA...

You can also search Moose by name and then go over some of his really good information. Makes me look like a squeaking piddy light weight by comparison.

if you cant manage it 2-3 mos before leaving your current job, how do you plan to handle it 2-3 months into trucking? or 6 mos in? If you cant give it up now, you wont be able to give it up then.

I wouldnt go with any bs i read online about it being "explainable". Piss hot and your DONE. Do not Pass Go. Do Not Collect 200.

Thanks @kelly727. Like you said, there's a lot of conflicting info out there that imply failed tests aren't the end of the road, so I'm glad I asked on here. I'm sure there are instances where that is the case, but it now seems those are exceptions to the rule and to be safe it's best to be off any problematic medications for at least a few months and ideally longer.

As far as being off Adderall if I do transition to trucking, I'm not worried. It does help a lot, but my reasons for being prescribed it are largely due to my current career and wouldn't factor in to trucking.

I'm sorry about being late into this thread, @Chinatown I have my tag notifications off so I did not see yours.

On the subject of hair testing. Right now a hair positive is NOT a FMCSA disqualification! Your name WILL NOT appear on the clearinghouse. IF it does hire an attorney because somebody has violated the law. Since ONLY the MRO can do it, that MRO might well lose their job.

This is the list of the substances the FMCSA test for on URINE ONLY testing.

Now read this DOT link very carefully! Take a special note to this comment.

There is an exception: the prescribing doctor can write that the driver is safe to be a commercial driver while taking the medication. In this case, the Medical Examiner may, but does not have to certify the driver.

It takes MORE than just a note from the prescribing physician. The DOT Medical Examiner MUST also sign off on it IF you want to operate a CMV.

Stop paying attention to "gus" at the local truck stop coffee counter and some of the "experts" on this subject. DO NOT take any of these substances without a legal prescription. EVER! If you land on that testing clearinghouse it will take a while to fix it. In the meantime, you are DISQUALIFIED!

EDITED: I also want to make it clear a carrier is free to say they don't want you taking these medications EVEN if you have a legal RX and the ME has signed off on it.

Methedone was the only pain med that drivers were not allowed to take because they used it to get off of taking (H), thats before they made it no pain killers at all if you wanted to drive a truck, they may still test for it i dont know?

Drivers still think, "I'll be totally honest about "whatever' and the company will hire me because of my honesty and integrity." Then they're disqualified and can't believe the rules weren't bent just for them.
Now it will take months or maybe never to be hired by a trucking company.
